Pro-family, Tea Party leaders coalesce around Todd Akin

ST. LOUIS, August 23, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – Now that Todd Akin has said he will be staying in the race for Missouri’s U.S. Senate seat, senior pro-life and conservative leaders including Phyllis Schlafly, Gary Bauer, and others are telling the Republican Party establishment to back off its “over-the-top” campaign to have him step aside. Phyllis Schlafly, Eagle Forum founder, supports Todd Akin. Phyllis Schlafly, Eagle Forum founder, supports Todd Akin.

Phyllis Schlafly, who emerged on the conservative scene with her 1964 book A Choice Not an Echo, rapped party elites for disenfranchising their own voters. “I don’t think people like that should make the decision,” she said. “The people of Missouri should make that decision.”

Both national pro-family leaders and local grassroots conservative leadership are confused and offended by national party leaders such as Karl Rove, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, and Charles Krauthammer, who have vowed to cut funds from Akin’s candidacy or pushed him to withdraw from the race.

Columnist Ann Coulter has suggested Republicans stage a write-in candidacy for former Governor Kit Bond.

“The on-going parade of public denunciations by various GOP leaders is over-the-top and counterproductive,” said Gary Bauer, a former presidential candidate and leader of the Campaign for Working Families, in a statement e-mailed to LifeSiteNews.com, “Some of their public attacks on Akin have been more aggressive than anything some of these leaders have ever said about Barack Obama and his truly radical rejection of the sanctity of human life and his promotion of abortion-on-demand paid for by the taxpayer!”

(Click “like” if you want to end abortion! )

Ryan Bomberger of the Radiance Foundation had a personal stake in the issue. The child of rape, he said, “Quite frankly, I’m glad such a pro-family, pro-life stalwart, despite a few bumps and lots of scrapes, is not quitting under pressure from hypocritical pro-abortion radicals and spineless Republicans.”

Iowa Congressman Steve King, who faced his own media feeding frenzy over abortion remarks taken out of context this week, was as blunt, stating that George Soros-funded media are now “dictating the response of leading Republicans.”

The Show Me state’s conservative leaders have flocked to Akin’s side, as well.

John Putnam, Missouri state coordinator for the Tea Party Patriots, said the national party should be “circling the wagons” around their candidate, not condemning him.

Akin won his races with a family-fueled campaign that defied the state’s Republican establishment. That has led local media to conclude he owes them nothing.

If he loses the race, the Republican Party will not take back control of the U.S. Senate. But pro-family leaders say if the Republicans replace Akin, they will almost certainly lose the race.

“After allegations of sexual indiscretions in sealed divorce records, which were leaked to the media, Republican leaders pressured Jack Ryan to withdraw from the 2004 Illinois Senate race,” said Vision America Action President Dr. Rick Scarborough. “That’s how we ended up with Barack Obama in the White House—a steep price to pay for Republican squeamishness.”

“Missouri voters – who gave Akin the GOP Senate nomination – are wise enough to decide who they’d prefer to send to Washington, ultra-liberal Clair McCaskill or a decent man and an authentic conservative who misspoke,” he said.

Many see the tempest-in-a-tea-party as little more than an attempt to marginalize pro-life voices within the Republican Party. Judie Brown of the American Life League wrote, “This is really not about Akin at all; it is about the red herring that pro-abortion forces have used for years to define genuine pro-life apologists as zealots, fanatics and unrealistic Pollyannas.”

Despite Akin’s remarks, Public Policy Polling, a Democrat-leaning firm, found him polling one point ahead of Democratic incumbent Senator Claire McCaskill, 44-43. “GOP voters dislike McCaskill so much they’re not going to vote for her no matter what their nominee does,” the firm found. “Independent voters haven’t moved at all either.”

Putnam said from his perspective, the only way Akin can prevail is “if the pro-life community gets behind him and makes this a national campaign.”

One would think that he had actually raped a woman.

It depends on how you define the word "raped". It is a legitimate rape or an illegitimate rape ?

Since you know so little about Akin that you don’t even know how to spell his name, I don’t think much of your opinion on his candidacy.

Then don't waste you valuable time responding.

Frankly, WM, I am disappointed that you have chosen to join the ranks of the cowards who fear McCaskell more than God. Akin can win, and if he can’t then it is God’s will for an unfaithful Missouri and an unfaithful USA.

I don't have the luxury of being "morally superior", or assuming there are no consequences to losing to radical leftists.

I will back Akin to the end. His positions on the issues mirror my own. If he steps down the GOP/e will install an Olympia Snowe clone to try to stop the bleeding. Political Correctness will have carried the day and God’s judgment will be one day closer.

If that's what it takes to get the 50th vote in the Senate and a R&R victory I hope they do it. obamacare is the nuclear bomb.

It’s a simple question with a simple answer...Do you have to tell your glands to pump adrenalin or cortisol into your blood stream?

None of that, even if true, helps the pro-Life cause. It hurts it.

You don’t have to “go there” to be 100% pro-Life.

Thank you for your valiant efforts here.
Unfortnately, there are people here willing to destroy the pro-Life cause over unsubstansiated ‘science’.

Cortisol levels SHOOT UP DURING PREGNANCY this is NORMAL, some women produce more than others, it is not simply a reaction to EXTERNAL stress.
It's normal? That's news to me. Got anything to back it up?

In the mean time...

Cortisol levels and very early pregnancy loss in humans
Maternal stress is commonly cited as an important risk factor for spontaneous abortion. For humans, however, there is little physiological evidence linking miscarriage to stress. This lack of evidence may be attributable to a paucity of research on maternal stress during the earliest gestational stages. Most human studies have focused on “clinical” pregnancy (>6 weeks after the last menstrual period). The majority of miscarriages, however, occur earlier, within the first 3 weeks after conception (≈5 weeks after the last menstrual period). Studies focused on clinical pregnancy thus miss the most critical period for pregnancy continuance. We examined the association between miscarriage and levels of maternal urinary cortisol during the first 3 weeks after conception. Pregnancies characterized by increased maternal cortisol during this period (within participant analyses) were more likely to result in spontaneous abortion (P < 0.05). This evidence links increased levels in this stress marker with a higher risk of early pregnancy loss in humans.

Snip...Cortisol production rises in response to energetic, immunological, and psychosocial challenges (47, 48). Thus, cortisol increases could serve as a physiological cue to women’s bodies that conditions for reproduction are deteriorating.

Snip...Our finding of an association between increased maternal cortisol and higher risk of miscarriage within the first 3 weeks of conception, together with the failure of previous research to find such an association later during gestation (23), suggests that pregnancy may be particularly sensitive to maternal stress during the placentation period.

Pretty interesting, eh?

Wm, Obamacare is not going to be repealed. Romney has never once said that he will repeal Obamacare, but has always said that his intention is to “repeal AND REPLACE” it.

We are going to get some form of either Obamacare or Romneycare no matter who controls the Senate next session.

So your cowering in fear of the institution of Socialized Medicine is a waste of energy. At this point, with Romney as the only alternative to Obama, Socialized Medicine is a foregone conclusion. So if you would prefer a n Olympia Snowe clone to a conservative who might lose but might win, then you are not only going to lose the socialized medicine war, but also the war to preserve life.

WM, I am sorry but I don’t recognize this forum any more. We have gone from an Army of soldiers on the precipice of rebellion to a mob of appeasers crying out for mercy from our captors.

Cortisol levels SHOOT UP DURING PREGNANCY this is NORMAL, some women produce more than others, it is not simply a reaction to EXTERNAL stress.
Cortisol levels rise and fall during pregnancy.

Cortisol in Blood
Cortisol has many functions. It helps the body use sugar (glucose) and fat for energy (metabolism), and it helps the body manage stress. Cortisol levels can be affected by many conditions, such as physical or emotional stress, strenuous activity, infection, or injury.
Normally, cortisol levels rise during the early morning hours and are highest about 7 a.m. They drop very low in the evening and during the early phase of sleep. But if you sleep during the day and are up at night, this pattern may be reversed. If you do not have this daily change (diurnal rhythm) in cortisol levels, you may have overactive adrenal glands.

Another...Cortisol Tests
Cortisol levels normally rise and fall during the day in what is called a diurnal variation, so that cortisol is at its highest level between 6-8 A.M. and gradually falls, reaching its lowest point around midnight.

It doesn't "shoot up" at all under "normal" circumstances.

I haven’t been here more than 2 years, but I must agree with you. I’m appalled lately at the FReepers willing to sacrifice unborn children to worship at the altar of “fiscal conservatism”, whatever the hell that is. And the number of people who bash, literally BASH anyone who has any negative comment about Romney. That guy, ideologically, is almost identical to Obama. I remember just a few short months ago when this place was No Romney, No Way. What the hell has happened??

It makes my skin crawl to see how easily some people abandon principle.

WM, I am sorry but I don’t recognize this forum any more. We have gone from an Army of soldiers on the precipice of rebellion to a mob of appeasers crying out for mercy from our captors.

I'd say the majority here are still fighters for what's right. That is after all what brought us here. It's only that recently the vitriol from those that are more "republican" than "conservative" has escalated. They are more vocal these days. I think it stems from a feeling of loss of control. There are factions of the GOP that are in outward rebellion of the power brokers within. The fundraising campaign in Missouri has locally become known as the campaign to help save Akin from the party bosses. Unfortunately, as the GOP country clubbers struggle to keep the uppity electorates' "asses in line" they only serve to alienate themselves and further fuel the rebellion.

Keep your chin up. There are little victories along the way. Like "Remember the Alamo", we now have "Remember Scott Walker" in Wisconsin. We have "Remember Chik-Fil-A" in Georgia. And hopefully we'll have "Remember Todd Akin" in Missouri. It would be easier on all of us if the GOP would turn it around and quit making war with their conservative base. But, if they do not, the worst thing we could do is stop fighting back. Keep standing tall, FRiend.

Save this post and publically state you were wrong when the Pubs repeal it next year.

This seems to be whats replaced serious political/religious discussion, rewrite what the poster has posted with a strawman attached. Get back to me when you want a serious discussion.

Maybe it's not the forum's problem but the posters. If posters want to stand on the beaches of Dunkirk while the ships are leaving with the troops that will be able to continue the fight that is their choice. It doesn't mean that the troops on the ships are any less dedicated to winning the war. It just shows which group is thinking about the bigger picture.

I don't think anyone is over joyed with Romney, but he's all we've got at this point and if we have a solid conservative group in the House and Senate I believe some good will be accomplished, including the repeal of obamacare.

I've been wrong before and I will be wrong again. I will admit my error and if I am wrong, I will be glad.

The fact of the matter is that Romney has never once indicated that he would repeal Obamacare unless he actually replaces it. I haven't seen his 2300 page proposal to replace it as of yet, have you?

He has lost 20 points since his major league gaff. Latest Rasmussen Poll:

Todd Akin (R) 38%

Claire McCaskill (D) 48%

Other 2%

Not Sure 3%

That’s about as dead as it gets. Ask someone who knows something about how elections really work. The fools in this conversation are the ones who believe that Akin can right the ship. Please refer to 2010 Senate results in Nevada, Connecticut, Colorado, Minnesota. Why are you so determined to help McCaskill get reelected?

Akin won the primary in large part because of McCaskill’s advertising accusing him of being the biggest conservative in the race. Voters who had no idea who he was, voted for him because they believed him to be the most conservative candidate - McCaskill’s ads had convinced them. Why did she run those ads? Because she knew that he was the only Republican candidate that she could possibly beat. She’s evil, but she ain’t dumb.

The two candidates endorsed by the major right to life groups, Steelman and Brunner, are still available. Pick one. They can run if Akin drops out. Get over the emotional attachment to a loser. Akin did this to himself.
