That national energy independence is a vital economic and national security issue.

“That national energy independence is a vital economic and national security issue.”

Absolutely agreed. It’s time we had a POTUS who held the Engery Dept, accountable for its original purpose, which Jimmy Carter said was to make American energy independent.

In addition, the Founding Father’s purposely included a national security provision of the Constitution, Article II, Sect. 1, the President must be a “natural born Citizen.”

“Natural Born Citizen” is too nebulous and open for discussion.

How ‘bout this: Candidates for President and Vice President must either be born on one of the United States, or both parents must be US citizens at the time of birth. The candidates must present a certified copy of their birth certificate at the time they announce their candidacy.

The “or” condition covers situations like John McCain.

Just some food for thought.

That sounds pretty reasonable - what about the territories though?

what about the territories though?

That's covered in the "or" condition.

John McCain was born in Panama because, IIRC, his Dad was in the service. But he's still considered a US citizen because his parents were both citizens.

I wonder if this could be simplified down to, both your parents must be certified US citizens at the time of birth. Period.

They might as well, its not like the platform means anything.

The RNC platform is a very important document. I have served on the Texas State Resolutions Committee, so I can tell you that the whole process, at least on the Republican side, is the voice of the grassroots. They just don't sit there making up what they want in it.

It all begins with the individual petitions at the local precinct conventions. They are collected from all the precincts and are sent to the district conventions where they cull out what they think needs to be added and they take out what is no longer relevant. Then it travels on to the state conventions and are solidified. By the time the state platforms get to the national convention it has become a huge voice of the grassroots. The RNC platform is a substantial document.

When I served on the TX Republican committee and we finished it, we had about 25 states who wanted a copy of it so they could use it as blueprint for their own platform.

I remember Bob Dole being questioned by a lamestream reporter if he had read the RNC Platform yet, and he said, "Who reads a platform?" And he wonders why he lost his Presidential election.

I would challenge anyone to find a copy of both the RNC and the DNC platforms and compare them. And then, for added effect read the Communist Manifesto.

Our Republican platform is a restatement of all of our Founding documents by people who believe that wrote in 1776 and 1789 meant a whole lot.

The entire world can slide through on that definition if they get their birth certificate from Hawaii saying they were born in that state.

They need to be born in one of the United States of US citizen parents. Once a candidate provides his birth certificate and proof his parents were either born here or naturalized before his birth, and he survives a verification period in which any citizen can lodge a challenge that must be successfully answered, he becomes a valid candidate for president.

Then I am sure that you would not mind a challenge to read both of the RNC and DNC platforms and get back with me.

Talk is cheap and actions speak far louder. Where are the calls for Scott Brown to step down?

Scott Brown presses Republicans to be ‘more inclusive’ on abortion

Brown blasts back: I am a pro-choice Republican

Your bold little platform means squat.

Why bother?

It means nothing even if you lack the courage to admit it.

That’s no good. Your language would make Prince William eligible had he been born in Manhattan. We need to stick to the Constitutional requirements, not the postmodern commie bs imposed by the courts.

Gee, Prince Williams' parent are both US citizens? Who knew?

Your proposed language said simply being born in the US was sufficient.
