Aloha kakahiaka Doc!

Seeing that pic of Gen. Tyron reminds me of my first encunter with a Marine General. It was at the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey while awaiting my class to start at DLI. We were not required to salute any officers in passing since the enlisted were out numbered 1500 to 80 and we'd all be worn to a frazzle before 0800 if we did; the exception was flag rank officers.

So heading the exchange one morning, I spotted a Marine Officer heading my way, in green A's with black insignia and got within two paces of him before noticing three stars on his blouse......and snapped a salute and a cheery Good Morning. He stopped me and asked what took so long, you're required to salute from three paces?

I said I've never seen a Marine General Before, Sir. .......He said "Good Morning, now get the hell out of here!"

Top o' the mornin', Biglook!

That's a Marine for you! I don't think I have anything to compare. Possibly the time I fixed a ticket for an Admiral. I was sitting at my desk in the security office at NNMC Bethesda late one night reading a magazine. (I was on Chief of the Day Watch) All I saw as I was looking down was a blue sleeve wrapped in gold. I snapped to attention and took the ticket he gave me. "Good evening, Admiral. I'll take care of it!" A smile from the Admiral and that was the end of it. The Security Officer came in next morning and grumbled a little. Like he'd have the stones not to do as I had.

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)
