Rasmussen will be releasing a poll this morning showing Akin costing us dearly in Missouri: McCaskill 48% Akin 38%.
Time to pack it up and stop screwing us, big guy.
“How is he possibly going to recover?”
McCaskill -still- can’t break 50% as an incumbent. If this is to be a total loss for Akin, if his remarks were enough to doom his Senate bid, and if the voters were going to turn from him to her, her polls would be over 50% now. Yet even after Akin [supposedly] commits political hari kari, the best she can do is 48%. She is a weak candidate, as weak as they come.
Yes, after a VERY stupid remark, Akin has fallen ten points behind, but at 38%, but I sense that he can still come from behind.
If he decides to leave voluntarily, before September 25, it might be possible to replace him on the ballot (even though a court order will be required). If he holds out through 9/25, there will be no “end run” around him. The only remaining choices will be to abandon him (and perhaps abandon hopes for the Pubbies retaking the Senate), or to say the heck with it, grit our teeth, and support him (as we chant to ourselves, “he may be an SOB, but he’s OUR SOB!”).
I don’t believe Akin will withdraw his name. From where he stands, he sees himself as being “in the right”, his very ill-advised remark notwithstanding. He probably believes that he won the right to represent the Republicans as the candidate fair and square (which he did). He views himself as having principles and he isn’t giving them up (don’t I hear platitudes all the time right here on FR about “sticking to one’s principles”?)
Final thought:
In reply #29 above “so_real” lists the conservative record of Mr. Akin, while serving as a Representative. Those are pretty impressive credentials. Time and time and time and time and time (had enough yet?) again, I’ve seen remarks in this forum to the effect “when are we going to get a REAL conservative for whom to vote?” Well, folks, we have one, in Mr. Akin — even if he suffers from Joe Biden disease now and then. No one is perfect. And because this is a pro-life forum, here is someone who is 100% pro-life. Is this who we want, or not?
Yep. The only one in vastly worse shape than McCaskill is.... Todd Akin. A 21-point drop in support inside of 10 days with no appreciable funding, no party support and no infrastructure... against a well-funded and revitalized democrat... is always a very bad sign for a challenger.
But he's convinced himself he's following "God's will."
Did you miss the part about "statewide" office?
I knew about Akin because I grew up in that district and remember when he was my parent's state representative.
The 'right' stayed out of this until Akin made the JonStewart media circuit. Here is a lesson for people who hear I am doing the 'LORD's' work and the LORD never sent them.
Exactly. The huge bump for McCaskill is about 50% Akin's fault, and 50% the fault of the whole GOP, from Romney on one side to Palin on the other, for staging a massive, skirt-clenching attack of the fainting vapours in full view of the media.
His voting record is irrelvent if he has ZERO chance of winning now that he has blown himself up with his ridiculous behavior.
And its not only his statement - his Hannity interviews reveal a delusional and mentally ill person with no connection to reality whatsoever.
POST OF THE DAY!
How is any of that going to matter when Todd Akin is sitting at home while Claire McCaskill votes consistently against conservatism in the US Senate for the next six years? There’s a good reason why McCaskill spent $2 million of her own campaign cash to help Akin win the GOP nomination.
Maxine Waters is like Ron Paul, a Congress member in a safe district, neither one can be elected on a state level.
Let go the the pearls Frances, this is all going to be fading echos in a short period of time.. After the DNC, milks the last drop of blood out of this overblown tempest, the teapot will be empty..
Overkill on the overused WAR ON WOMBmen, will become as bankrupt as their GAY MARRIAGE meme at their convention..
This typical LOONEY LEFTIST PLAYBOOK has become so obvious that it may be the last distraction allowed by the Moderate voters, begging for real leadership..
I really don’t care if Akin stays or goes, we will forget him in long haul, replaced by the newest scandal in the next news-cycle, already in the photobucket in the festering bowels of the White House..
Frankly, I am personally as nauseated with extremist screaming about PURISM on both fringes, that I tune out all of their messages..
READY, AIM, FIRE... :)
I have been receiving emails begging for donations every day since the bonehead made his remarks. First emails from him ever.
Maxine Waters represents a ghetto district in South Central L.A. Akin is running for a Senate seat that reps the ENTIRE state of Missouri. It's a faulty comparison.
Correction, “over”.
Please Perry Akin please stop posting here and just tell Dad to step aside .
Thanks to Akin (if he loses the Senate seat and/or Romney loses Missouri and the general election because of it) blaming the GOPe and RINOs is now out the window.
Akin is hurting the conservative movement. Now conservatives will get blamed (even though most of us wanted him to step down).
This is a win / win for RINOs.
Thank you Akin!
Is there going to be a Debate in MO? I'm sure Claire and her Moderator buddy will be bringing this up a few hundred times.
They should replace the word Titanic with the word “Akin” in the Dictionary.
Here is an idea for a new Akin Ad. “Akin, it rhymes with Bacon, and who doesn't love Bacon?” That's his only hope.
And unfortunately, neither do his diehard supporters here.
