Augsburg College, the Lutheran liberal arts college in Minneapolis, has joined the coalition working to defeat the proposed marriage amendment.
The college, with 4,000 students, is now part of Minnesotans United for All Families, which opposes the proposed constitutional amendment that would limit marriage to one man and one woman.
State law already prohibits gay marriage, but supporters of the amendment want it put in the state Constitution, so the Legislature or courts cannot make a change.
Pastor Grant Stevensen, Minnesotans United for All Families faith director, said in a statement:
"Five of the six Minnesota synods of the ELCA in Minnesota already publicly oppose this amendment, and Im proud to know that Augsburg College a higher education institution founded on Lutheran teachings...

Martin Luther’s spinning in his grave. (Why don’t people who want a pagan or anti-Biblical society go found their own “churches” or “synagogues” and stop using (besmirching) the names of denominations or clerics traditionally dedicated to Judeo-Christian values? It seems very unfair to have people preaching in direct opposition to Lutheran or Calvinist principles while claiming their pulpits to be Lutheran or Presbyterian. At the least, its very misleading. Martin Luther married a female, incidentally (ex-nun, in fact) and they had 6 children.
I think they prefer Martin Poofer.
