The best news in recent polling is Romney doing well in these traditionally blue states. Even if he loses Michigan, PA, etc, Obama is going to have to spread his ad budget and can’t concentrate all their money in the swing states. My feeling is he only carries Ohio if he is able to sink a big chunk of his spending there. He’s going to have to ‘spread it around’ a lot to keep his base states.
Enjoy Obama-Care
It seems that every cycle we get polls that show the GOP doing well in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Washington. Then the GOP spends time and money on them, only to lose by 5 - 7 %
Obama’s major campaign ad effort in southern Ohio has been Medicare, Coal, and Romney Taxes. I’ve seen his AARP Medicare ad more than any other. At about half that rate I see his “Romney should pay/reveal taxes too” ad. The “Romney hates coal, Obama loves it” ad ran a few times late last week in the early hours.
The coal ad seems particularly tailored for southern Ohio, and it’s an indication that Obama is in trouble, especially in Strickland’s old district to the east of me. Those people would normally have voted for a democrat with horns, so there was never any need for special buys to appeal to them.
I assume the AARP ad is everyplace as Obama seeks to peel as many conservative seniors off as possible from their normally conservative voting habits.
The “Romney Taxes” ad has to be appealing to the entitlement base that loves their security net. I don’t know if that indicates a problem, or if it is just standard ad campaign stuff. If I found it was only in normally conservative regions like this, then I’d bet Obama is feeling a backlash even among the handout folks. My conversations with them indicates they’ve picked up the conservative meme that “obama is destroying the country”.
That doesn’t mean anything to a generational democrat, though. They sound conserative ‘til they enter the anonymity of the voting booth. So many of them, though, just aren’t registered to vote.
Of course, maybe voters are tired of Malloy acting like Obama, so they decide to vote Republican this year. (I doubt it thou)
Obama’s campaign is already essentially broke. So far Mittens is playing obama like a fiddle.
It's happening. It is really happening. Ryan has brought the Rust Belt truly into play.
Yep. The more BHO and the DNC have to spend on advertising in transnational blue states to keep them blue, the less they have to spend in swing states. If you start seeing Obama ads in New England, Michigan, PA, etc. you know hi sin in real trouble.
