Rep. Todd Akin, the embattled Senate candidate who used the phrase legitimate rape in talking about abortion and pregnancy, said Tuesday afternoon that he would stick to his decision to remain in the race.

Agreed!
Just saying ‘but we’re having a wonderful pity party’ posts are a waste of time.
Y’all gnash you teeth for a short while then get over it.
It’s natural, I understand...
Really now. Who's going to flood the polls to vote for him... old white men?
Yes, he tried to explain it, to Hannity, and still came off sounding like a moron.
Also, please try and explain the second part of his comment.
“the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”
Because that is one of the most idiotic things I’ve heard in my entire life and I’m someone who works in the medical field.
You mean Foley the child predator? What should he have fought back against?
The Macacca issue was nonsense from the beginning. George Allen should not have apologized for it.
Akin’s comments were idiotic, and he should step aside. Sometimes you gotta know when to fold ‘em.
Its like people don’t see reality. His unfavorability rating in Missouri among likely voters is over 50% and will only climb higher as McCaskill stops pretending to be his buddy and goes out on a scorched earth campaign to bury him. He’s finished and the idiot doesn’t even know it.
“Great to see the Rep. Akin will not succumb to the whims of the Yellow Bellied RINOs who what the destroy a man who has worked his entire life for the Pro Life Movement and Conservatism.”
Yes! Major gaffes involving junk science are sure fire ways to advance both!
Yeah. Great. Glad to hear it. Oh, by the way, Harry Reid will be remaining on as the Majority Leader in the Senate, or haven't you heard?
That is what is on his Facebook page today, by the way.
And, if correct, there is even a post that leftist groups are contributing to his campaign. That is entirely plausible since McCaskill has been defending him and ran ads which advanced Akin's primary. I wonder if there is any way for the state GOP to get another endorsed candidate on the ballot as a write in or an independent at this stage?
Those who can’t do, teach.
Those who can’t teach, become politicians.
Akin is living proof.
There has to be a way for the party for forcibly remove him from the ticket. If a primary winner goes off an commits a crime but will not step down as a candidate, the party must have the ability to remove that person from the ticket.
I’m glad he has decided to stay in the race. Solid Conservative and will do well for us. Republicans need a backbone and stop letting the lefty media whipping us up into herd mentality. He is standing up to the political wave of the moment. GOPe is already off the hook since they capitulated like a bunch of little girls.
“Akin owes the GOP Establishment nothing after they publicly lynched him. He won the primary fair and square.”
Yep. Claire McCaskill won’t owe him anything either after she slaughters him in the general fair and square. That makes me downright nauseous even typing that :/.
Trying to explain is now irrelevant. He just made the Republican party the official anti-science, pro-rape party in this country and the only way for him to stop it was by stepping down.
Now every Republican candidate IN THE COUNTRY has the pleasure of answering “what do you think rape is?” and “do agree with your colleague and fellow like-minded Republican Mr. Akin on female physiology?”
Thanks for seeing my point.
Yes likely so.
He made a mistake and apologized. All the belly aching from the circular firing squad didn't help any.
And no, the Rs are not going to lose the House to those who think so, and they will highly likely take the Senate. The Dems have about 23 caucus Senate seats to defend in this election.
Overtime, the Dims will likely overplay their hands about Akin's remark and they will suffer a boomerang effect against them as Akin's repeatedly apologizes for his misspeak.
The Republican Party of Missouri must have the power to tell him to take a hike. If they do, they should tell him to gracefully step down, or else the party will forcibly remove him.
The comment showed a lack of intelligence and awareness. We have enough idiots in the Senate, we don’t need another.
He should stand down and go back and try to win his House seat, though he may not even be able to win his old district after this flap.
Politics is unforgiving. If you say or do something impeccably stupid like this, there will be consequences.
