Group representing Va. veteran says he’s being detained for anti-government Facebook posts

RICHMOND, Va. — A former Marine involuntarily detained for psychiatric evaluation for posting strident anti-government messages on Facebook has received an outpouring of support from people who say authorities are trampling on his First Amendment rights.

Brandon J. Raub, 26, has been in custody since FBI and Secret Service agents and Chesterfield County police questioned him Thursday evening about what they considered ominous posts talking of a coming revolution. In one message earlier this month, Raub wrote: “Sharpen my axe; I’m here to sever heads.”

Dee Rybiski, an FBI spokeswoman in Richmond, said there was no Facebook snooping by her agency.

“We received quite a few complaints about what were perceived as threatening posts,” she said. “Given the circumstances with the things that have gone on in the country with some of these mass shootings, it would be horrible for law enforcement not to pay attention to complaints.”

Whitehead said some of the posts in question were made on a closed Facebook page that Raub had just created and that had only three members, so he questioned whether anyone from the public would have complained about them.

“Deemed potentially dangerous” by faceless, unnamed “mental health crisis intervention workers” (mental health bureaucrats) looking at the guy’s Facebook posts.

Very alarming precedent.

One major difference I see between you personal experience and that of Mr. Raub is that at least in the case of your mother you and your sister could testify to personal observation of your mother’s behavior.

The people swearing out a “warrant” as to the possible dangers posed by Mr. Raub had nothing but a few internet postings that may suggest (if interpreted loosely) he is a danger to someone.

BUT.. the black panthers can say out loud on camera, that its time to kill white people and that is not a terrorist threat, it seems to be ok. The world is truly upside down.

Back to the USSR,...You don't know how lucky you are.... Beatle John Lennon)

Here are more signs to unadulterated Communism. Put anyone who objects to 0b0z0 in a mental hospital and pump him/her with drugs until they don't know who they are!

In the good ol' USSR, the rational was that if you opposed the government, you must be crazy. If you knew that you would face execution, put in a Siberian labor camp or just simply you could "vanish," How dare you oppose the Communist government?

Are we heading to a communist dictatorship? If we fail to resist what’ll be thrust upon us during the pre-election, the election and/or in the aftermath, there’s no doubt in my mind we’ll arrive there.

This is a window on the very near future. If we allow history to repeat itself, we’re doomed to enslavement.

Well let this be a lesson to everyone who irks the government. There is no gain in cooperating with police officers who show up at your door. Simply decline to answer the door to your house. Aside from invited guests, I've ignored people ringing my doorbell door for years, since uninvited guests never have anything of value to say to me. Well, except for the Publisher's Clearinghouse guy....

If you can see the agency names on the doors of the police cars, you can have your attorney call the agency in question to see what they want.

If you do feel compelled to communicate, go to a second-story window and open it. Talking through the window, ask the officer(s) knocking on the door to leave their contact information at the door and that your attorney will contact them shortly to discuss the matter in question. Close the window. By doing this you have not refused to cooperate, but rather have asked for legal counsel to represent you in all discussions with LEO's.

Details from the article are sketchy, but I'm betting the anti-military comments got the FBI involved and they showed up with some flunky social worker in tow. Because this guy engaged in a conversation with the officers/agents, he enabled the case worker to "observe" him and deem him "dangerous". Once he was deemed dangerous, I'm sure he started backpedaling and did not want them to arrest him, but by then it was too late. Having opened the door and engaged in discussion, he lost the protection of a warrant, since apparently.

Treat the government like a vampire. If you invite them into your house, you deserve to get what's coming to you...

Raub’s supporters are characterizing the detention as an arrest, complaining that he was handcuffed and whisked away in a police cruiser without being served a warrant or read his Miranda rights. But county and federal authorities say it was not an arrest because Raub doesn’t face criminal charges.

Col. Thierry Dupuis, the county police chief, said Raub was taken into custody upon the recommendation of mental health crisis intervention workers. He said the action was taken in accordance with the state’s emergency custody statute, which allows a magistrate to order the civil detention and psychiatric evaluation of a person deemed to be potentially dangerous. He said Raub was handcuffed because he resisted officers’ attempts to take him into custody.

So "custody" is no longer "arrest"?
Both prevent your right to freely leave without permission from a government agent. I know - the Constitution restricts that type of activity - but then you all sat back and didn't complain when the US Supreme Court decided that people could be tried by both federal and state legal systems for the same crime with the same facts and be given two sentences.

Looks as if I'll never get to change my tagline!       :^(

This attorney sees it the same way you do. I’m censoring the rest of my thoughts lest the precrime constabulary come knocking on my door.
