Is this definite? There seems to be conflicting reports.
They’s makin’ samiches!
“At some point before 5pm CDT tomorrow, Akin will file papers to formally withdraw his name from the ballot. I realize today Akin was defiant and said he wasn’t a “quitter.””
Don’t forget all the staff that worked on his campaign and will now be out on their own. He owed it to his staff at the very least to not say “Poof! Goodbye!” after all their hard work for him.
AKIN WILL WITHDRAW...

I hope so, but how does Mike Flynn know this? Is this just a hunch?
Wouldn’t the person who got 2nd place be the person next considered as the ‘winner’? Or do the winners have to have a certain percentage to win, even in the event of a disqualification (or other reason such as this)?
Gosh darn, I hope the author is right. The guy needs to move on.
Sarah Steelman should be the candidate if for no other reason than Brunner is the pick of the GOPe.
Sarah has the backing of Sarah and that will beat McCaskill.
I'm thinking now it won't be either Brunner or Steelman. I'm thinking either Ann Wagner, current candidate for Akin's House seat (my district), or Kit Bond, consistent statewide winner, two-time governor, four-time senator, recently retired (but 73 now).
BTW, it's JOHN Brunner not "Jim."
Among the two, Steelman probably has the edge as the GOP may want to put the Akin debacle to rest by nominating a woman.
The same could be accomplished by running Ann Wagner.
Steelman finished third in the primary, and she is not all that popular in state Republican circles. She hasn't always been a very good team player.
“GOP officials are considering Jim Talent, State Auditor Tom Schweich and John Brunner, who came in second behind Akin in the Republican primary.”
Talent says “it ain’t me babe”, so could be one of the other two, or whoever else from the GOP-E is rattling around the back of the GOP of Missouri’s closet.
Phew! That’s one seat saved with some minor damage to the party’s image. Not so bad. Now back to your casket, McCatskull. You’re still a dead candidate.
Thank you Mr. Akin for doing the right thing.
Former Sen. Jim Talent, who lost to McCaskill in 2006, has already announced he won't seek the nomination.
That's one "recommendation" down.
Other names being floated include former Sen. John Ashcroft and former Ambassador Ann Wagner. Wagner is the current GOP candidate to replace Akin in the House.
And if Wagner accepts who is going to volunteer to take her place?
What a year!
The FUnniest thing is that not only did McCaskill attempt to get Akin to win the primary but yesterday she sounded soooooo forgiving of Akin. Yeah, right. She just wants him to stay in. Of course, later she would be slamming him big time.
Huh? Does Akin believe God told him to run? If so, then he better notice that God is loudly YELLING at him to withdraw.
YES! Did she place 2nd in that primary? If so, she would be the obvious choice. I can hope.
Picking Brunner or Steelman will just piss off the supporters of the one not selected and fracture the party. I expect that the Missouri GOP will pick someone else.
Whoever replaces him must be pro-life without exceptions.
There is no point at this time for conservatives to dilly-dally with GOP moderates. Abortion is murder regardless of the cause of pregnancy. Being pro-life with exceptions is being pro-death.
I think it’s a moot point, because this idiot is arrogant enough to think he’ll win despite this idiocy. I only wonder how widespread the damage is going to be, now that he’s decided standards for intelligence don’t apply to him. He certainly has enough sycophants in his corner.
