He sounds like a great guy who said something really, really stupid in a moment in which he was caught offguard. Unfortunately, we are in an age of soundbites. This one is a killer. If he leaves, as I believe he should, I hope there is another good conservative to take out McCaskill.

Whether he leaves or not should be up to him and his supporters. The fact that the GOP is saying there will be no RNC money for his campaign and we have folks like Scott Brown, Sen Johnson, and Cong West condemning him and asking him to withdraw is not the way a party should treat one of its colleagues. He has committed no crime or indiscretion. Why the piling on? Is he allowed one verbal gaffe or do only Dems have that freedom?

Taking out McCaskill will be more difficult given the way the GOP treats one of its own. Akin's supporters who carried him to victory in the primaries may not be happy with being disenfrancised. The GOP could have handled this much better instead of joining the herd to demonize this guy. It is disgusting really.
