Did you ever hear about the 35 million in Katrina funds given by Nagin to the Sean Cummings the developer with no strings attached for public ART and so called River front redevelopment ?????
I did not, but did you know that the Morial administration received reports of levee leaks within the city, and that those reports were ignored and covered up? Meanwhile the federal money to maintain the levees sort of disappeared.
Nagin was bad. Morial was worse. But for the levee breaks, New Orleans would have weathered Katrina. $35,000,000 is relative chump change, compared to the flood that need not have happened, and would not have happened under competent governance, corrupt or not.
I detest federal intemeddling in local affairs, but New Orleans should be occupied, garrisoned and policed, just as it was under the Spanish Crown. That was the only time New Orleans ran a profit as a colony. I forget the exact numbers, but the ratio of garrison to residents was about 2:3.
