That implies that there are candidates out there who could "step up" and replace them and actually get elected.
But there aren't, so what would be the point? Should Romney step down and let Alan Keyes run against Obama? Because he was so successful in 2004?
Actually virtually anyone who Romney faced in the primaries would be a far more acceptable choice. After all Mitt is pretty good at shoving his feet in his mouth.
But hey, thanks for exposing the hypocrisy for me.
Exactly. If Akin steps down there will be no one “rallying” around him. He will just be an also-ran loser, and will be forgotten by the party. Many pro-life groups have rallied to his defense, if he hangs tough, this tempest in a teapot will be over within the next news cycle. If he steps down, there will be a whole other round of news surrounding the new pick... will it be the 2nd place guy, or the 3rd place gal? Another week of distraction and not talking about Obama’s great depression. Akins had it spot on this morning when he clarified his remarks. Repubs are only helping the Dems muddy the water right now...
We had an entire primary full of candidates who could do a better job than Romney has been doing. Ryan, Gingrich and Santorum to name three. Romney was destroyed in the South Carolina debate and primary because he wouldn't agree to releasing his tax returns. And he's failing to learn from his mistake and setting himself up for the exact same catastrophic fall. There is nothing in those tax returns that could be any worse than the fear of the unknown that the Democrats will inculcate up to a fever pitch. And if Romney does eventually release them, how will he justify wasting all this media air time making excuses for himself when he could have been running an actual campaign against Obama?
