To beat Obama

Akin can foul up Romney/Ryan

An “engineer” on a TV show asked about rape or abortion should never answer by relying on “I heard something a doctor said”
Akin should have put a huge bandage on his left hand to remind him to shut up and deflect “gotcha” questions from the media
There is a reason that Obama has not had the WH Press Corps in to ask him questions since March 2012 (I believe)
Romney now has his sealegs
Ryan is used to handling the media and others
Akin has wiped out a Republican lead in the Senate race there and created a huge mountain for any other candidate to climb
