The donks get away with the things they say because they have a powerful team working overtime to repair their image, namely the entire MSM. The same team will be spending every single news cycle trying to nationalize Akin's comment. If Akin stays in the race they WILL succeeed.

It doesn't matter if he was right or wrong, mispoken or misunderstood or mistaken. He needs to cash in his chips and leave the table ASAP for the good of the country.
