The words “legitimate” and “rape” do not belong together.

While I have never heard the two terms together like that. Would "legitimate rape" mean a "rape", as opposed to someone who cries "rape" after what was really consensual sex???

Your wording would make sense. Maybe the wording should have been "actual" or "true," not "legitimate." Legitimate makes it sound "legal."
