Gas Prices Moving to All-Time High

The prices that Americans pay for gas at the pump may reach an all-time high this summer. The average price is $3.70 per gallon, which is an increase of 30 cents since July and the climb in price from July to August was 9 percent. The increase is particularly concerning because a reduction in global demand, caused by a persistent world-wide recession, has kept demand for gas relatively low. Some have predicted that the price of gas will reach $3.90 per gallon before Labor Day. Gas prices have risen each month for seven straight months this year.

Just in time for the election. Now if only Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan would hit on this one simple little fact, over and over, the cost of motor fuel impacts the price of EVERYTHING we use or consume. It also makes the cost of commuting to work a much more onerous burden, even for the fewer people who actually have jobs, and for those jobs, they have less otherwise disposable income after paying for the increased costs of both fuel and food.

Gas Prices under George W. Bush reached $1.90

Gas Prices under Obama are above $4.00.

Correction: The prices under Bush did get to $4.00 for a brief period. He then took action to open drilling in the gulf and other areas and the price dropped. This president would rather we wait till someone invents a car with a windmill on top and we all buy into it.

First week of June, Unleaded Regular was $3.19/gal; now it’s $3.69/gal. Food prices are still rising fast. Everything in stores moves by truck, and diesel is $4.09/gal; $4.49/gal on the PA Turnpike and I-80 exit stations.

The Department of the Interior has done everything possible to inhibit domestic oil production. The EPA has forced at least seven U.S. refineries to close. The continuation of the ethanol mandate and Obama’s halt of the Keystone pipeline all add up to higher and higher prices. Add to this soundbites of DOE Secretary Chu saying he wants U.S. gas prices of $8 or more a gallon and you have a good campaign commercial. Obama’s war on fossil fuels is something that affects every household.

The facts are simple. Gas Prices under George W. Bush reached $1.90 Gas Prices under Obama are above $4.00.

W was the prime mover in terms of high gas prices, a weak dollar, large corporate bailouts, and a bad economy. Obama hasn't made it any better, though.

Gas prices did temporarily collapse under W in 2008, but that was due to an impending global economic collapse.

Heh; I can remember 21¢/gal, in 1969 at Drake Univ in Des Moines. When the stations on the large intersections' 4 corners had the famous "gas wars", Reg (leaded) dropped to 13-14¢/gal. My new '69 VW Bug w/ 10gal tank was a pleasure to full-up for $1.30 and drive for 7-10 days. At 62, I feel like a fossil.

I don't believe in flying saucers. I don't believe in bigfoot. I think crop circles are elaborate hoaxes. I don't believe in chemtrails, or remote sensing, or the face on mars. However I do believe the guy they call “Obama” is an agent of a hostile foreign power, possibly Iranian given certain developments. The American people generally cannot accept that we've been in a state of asymmetric warfare with radical islam for some time, and it's not a stretch that they actually got one of their guys in the White House with the help of the democratic party. It's not much of a stretch at all, in fact, it makes perfect sense once you get past the initial shock of it all.

Obama understands the political impact, which is why he is talking about releasing oil from the strategic reserve. There is a direct correlation between gas prices and presidential approval. The higher the prices, the lower the approval numbers.

Gas prices got into the $4 range during the summer of 2008. However its important to note that democrats held both the house and senate but went on vacation and refused to deal with energy policy.

My congressmen was one of those who stayed in Washington calling for Nancy Pelosi to call congress into session to deal with the situation. Gas was the single most expensive cost of my trip up north that summer.

It rose due to tensions in the Gaza strip and then declined rapidly as the crisis waned.
