SANTA MONICA, Calif. — A jury here put the total price tag for what it held to be an anti-Semitic episode at the Hotel Shangri-La at about $1.6 million on Thursday. The award includes about $1.2 million in compensatory damages and more than $400,000 in punitive damages.
The compensatory award was disclosed in court late Wednesday after a week of deliberations in a case in which the proprietor, Tehmina Adaya, was accused of violating a California civil rights law by trying to evict a Jewish group in 2010. The punitive damages were awarded Thursday.
The trial, which had been under way in the Superior Court of Los Angeles County since late last month, raised rare claims of anti-Semitism in this beach city.
In 2010, Ms. Adaya, who is a Pakistani-born Muslim, ordered the closing of a poolside event sponsored by Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces, but she eventually allowed the group to stay after insisting that signs and literature identifying its purpose be removed. In testimony by a former employee and others, she was said to have given the order with an obscenity aimed at the Jews in attendance and to have said that her family members would cut off her financing if they learned of the gathering.

Hmmm. She said if the event went as scheduled, her family would have cut her funds off...Well, she didn’t let them continue so wonder if the family will pay the fine???
Seems to me she should be having a chat with her booking people. “Friends of the Israeli Defense Force” Doesn’t leave much to the imagination as to of who will be in attendance.
$1.6 million? That’s outrageous.
Not enough, had I been on the jury it would have been at least twice that much.
I fear God and I will vote for Romney. At least he doesn’t hate whites.
They’d have to ban all poolside group promotions if they wanted to ban this one. They couldn’t let a Muslim group do it but not Jews.
