BOSTON (AP) - Barack Obama's re-election campaign kept up pressure against Republican rival Mitt Romney on two fronts Friday, launching a new ad defending the president's record on Medicare while challenging Romney to release at least five years of tax returns.

Our tax return, wife and I, are quite simple. We take the standard deduction. However I’m sure that if our tax return with incomes listed were opened up to public scrutiny let alone for some trouble maker I/we could be put on a tortuous path of explanations. From what I know about this brouhaha about Romney’s returns, two years release without any IRS action about earlier years (and I’ll bet Obama’s enablers are busy at the IRS) is plenty to give the public necessary insight. Perhaps this will push Romney to go for a simplified return system. People like my wife and me should not have to spend so much time or money to show our bloated debt.
Mitt has already released 2 years of tax returns .. that’s all that is necessary. There’s no law that says he has to produce more.
The Obama camp wants Mitt to submit more because of several reasons.
1 - The Obama camp are looking for something to batter Mitt with. Mitt is squeaky clean; married only once; no girl friends; no illegitimate children, no dirt, etc. So .. the Obama camp’s theory is - nobody is that clean (libs believe that because none of them are clean) .. there just has to be something in those tax returns we can use to win the election (because we are desperate). The Obama camp obviously did not find anything in the 2 years Mitt provided.
2 - Since most Americans have their taxes done by someone else, this might allow the Obama camp to portray any of Mitt’s items as BAD .. and perhaps more people will believe Mitt was hiding something.
3 - The reason the Obama camp does that kind of stuff is because it’s a psychological affiliction called “projection”. The persons (Obama camp) doing the accusing is really the person (Obama camp) doing the bad stuff .. but by accusing the other person (Mitt) .. the Obama camp is insinuating that they (the Obama camp) are not doing bad stuff but the other guy (Mitt) could be.
It’s like the statement, “what is he hiding” .. insinuating that the Obama camp is NOT hiding anything.
Or .. what about, “We’re going to be the most transparant administration ever”, insinuating that the previous admin was not transparant.
You see how that works ..?? I know it very well because I was married to a person like that. I was accused of cheating .. but after our divorce, I found out my partner was the one who was cheating.
Remember that word - “projection” - Charles Krauthammer described it on TV .. so I didn’t make it up.
This is why Harry Reid lied and said that somebody told him Mitt didn’t pay any taxes for 10 years. Funny thing about Reid though .. he’s never released ANY OF HIS TAX RETURNS, and he’s in a very high position in our govt.
NO! I do not want to see anybody’s tax returns. Doesn’t interest me in the least - especially yours.
And .. you see, since Mitt has already released 2 years of tax returns proving his “sterling character” .. then why is the Obama camp insisting he provide more ..?? Sounds like fishing to me.
Wrong. This election is a referendum on the economy and Obama's handling of same. Getting off on some rabbit trail only helps Obama. Stay focused and stay on message.
It doesn’t matter to me whether he releases them or not. I’ll still vote for him but only because I hate Obama. At this point I have a hard time believing there are really many undecideds anyway.
I must admit I am beginning to wonder why he wont release them.
If he did release them I can just imagine the 24/7 effort to make them an issue even if there were no issues. The entire campaign focus would be on tax returns and the press would gladly join the effort to hint at wrong doing, fraud or worse.
The rest of the campaign would be devoid of issues and put Romney on defense over silly charges, hints of avoidance, dishonesty etc. 24/7. NO NO NO, don’t give them anything not required by law, N O T H I N G
“It could hurt him politically not to release them, thats all.”
Politically hurt is exactly the intent with this ploy. They’ll pick and choose the info they want to focus on and then it’ll be more of the same — millionaires and billionaires don’t pay their fair share and here’s PROOF.
Class warfare always hurts Republicans, not rich, powerful, hypocritical dems who are using the same tax code.
When the dummy in the white hut releases the Fast and Furious documents than Mitt should release his tax records and not a moment before. What is Barry hiding?
“And I will fight to have Myth Romney DUMPED in Tampa.”
My mistake, I see you are not funny. You are delusional.
General, take your 3rd Army to Tampa and demand the release of the Romney delegates!
CyberAnt - Thank you for your refreshing response explaining blantant liberal behavior.
Judging from your posts, that seems to be what you desire.
oops...blatant.
I wonder if Patton would release his returns if he were in Romney’s situation? Knowing a little about the General, I imagine he would have some very colorful words for the media and the Obama campaign.
You’re most welcome.
If we’re going to defeat the liberals, we must learn how they operate.
Beat me to it.
It doesn't matter what's on them, there WILL be something to make an issue of, legal or no.
I enjoy watching a Pubby run, that wants to win for a change. And I enjoy Mitt's placid demeanor -- I don't think they can find his skin, much less get under it.
Bingo!
CyberAnt...liberal BS going on right now...Juan is subbing for Mr. Bill & after listening to Juan’s loaded-biased questions to a lying lib (didn’t catch the name) answering with his talking points defending Biden, trashing Ryan on the farm bill,(thought the House passed the Farm Bill) and...quite frankly had to turn it off before my head exploded.
This is just a wild guess on my part, but after viewing a number of the sparkling gems you have submitted here on FR in the recent past, I think if George S. Patton were with us today, and saw how you besmirch his name, he’s slap you upside the head like he did that malingering coward many years ago!
Yep. I expect them to leak around November 1st
How many Tax Returns did JFK and Teddy Kennedy release when they were running for the Pres?????
Beuler, anybody??
