Gov. Paul LePage is hinting that he'll call a special legislative session this fall to bring up an undisclosed issue, but says it will "push the envelope."
The Republican governor's comments were recorded at a GOP event in Bangor on Wednesday night and appeared Thursday in political columnist Mike Tipping's blog. In it, LePage says he has a plan to call lawmakers into special session but said the legislation he's looking at is being reviewed by the attorney general.
While not divulging the topic, LePage says it's what a lot of other Republican states have done.
I think we can get it done in about a day and the Democrats, if you think they hate me now Wow, LePage says on the recording.
Democratic leaders say the governor should make his "secret plans" for a special session public. Rep. Emily Cain of Orono says LePage "is making partisan political threats and keeping the public in the dark."

Governor Paul LePage has revealed his secret plan to hold a special session of the legislature in the coming weeks, and before the November elections.
Hmmmm
LePage is LeBom.
What could it be that “otherRepublican states are doing”?
Anything about illegals? Or Obama’s eligibility?
Voter ID, hopefully, maybe...?
Probably voter ID - that radical idea that you should be required to prove who you are before Driver’s license
buying alcohol, er, buying cigarettes, er, apply for welfare, er, cash a check, er, open a bank account, er no,,,vote! Yeah that’s it. How racist and disenfranchising!
I'm not up on Maine's current laws - decades of bad ones followed by a year and a half of reforms - so I can't guess.
The Governor refused to reveal what the policy is, saying that the state Attorney General is currently investigating to determine if it is constitutional. However, he says that if enacted, the policy would put the state on the right track for the next decade.
I’ll bet he’s going to “Governor Walker” the public unions.
My guess is modifying public employee benefits, especially pensions.
I think you both have a very good point!
Schools in Maine normally get out in june and last year he threatened to close the schools in in March or April because of costs. The dems put up a stink about it.
No matter what it is if the court get involved Maine should not obey any court decision. Time to tell the court to go to hell. The Governor and its legislature makes laws with their people, not the damn courts as long as it is Constitutional.
Gotta be the unions and pensions. They are running the state dry. Maine has a real issue with an aging population (we raise hands), stinky business environment and a huge public employee base. Something’s gotta be done.
This Governor continues to treat the people of Maine like they are morons. His methods and philosophy sicken me, all I have to say is thank you Libby Mitchell for contributing to Maine becoming a laughing stock due to our wonderful Governor.
Obamacare. Refusing to participate in it. I don't think that illegal aliens is a big issue in Maine.
Wow! You’re the first Conservative I’ve ever heard down our governor. I think he’s doing a wonderful job.
Oh, they're here! Many Mexicans, also many from Salvador and Peruvians all illegal.
