RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -
The Richmond Public Library was inundated with guests carrying guns Wednesday evening. You could call it a silent protest (in a library, it'd have to be).
The read-in protest was against one of the rules recently changed on the library's website. The rule reads, "Carrying concealed weapons is prohibited, except as permitted by law." In the Richmond Public Library, it is legal to openly carry a gun without a permit, or to carry one concealed with a permit.
Gun supporters say that the wording of the rule is confusing and discourages people from exercising their 2nd Amendment right to carry a firearm, even in a quiet place like the library. More than two dozen people, like Samantha Downing, opened books while openly carrying guns.
"I'd really like to bring awareness to the fact that it is perfectly legal to carry in places like the library," said Downing.

One of if not the premier group in the nation.
In the interest of liberals’ favorite word “fairness,” the library should add the following:
“Women aren’t allowed in the library, except as allowed by law”
“African Americans aren’t allowed in the library, except as allowed by law”
“Asian Americans aren’t allowed in the library, except as allowed by law”
“Caucasian Americans aren’t allowed in the library, except as allowed by law
“Hispanic Americans aren’t allowed in the library, except as allowed by law”
“Native Americans aren’t allowed in the library, except as allowed by law”
“Homosexuals aren’t allowed in the library, except as allowed by law”
I can’t help but think of the King Of the Hill episode where Peggy Hill opened a book store that turned into a gun club.
I love the combination gun and book store that I frequent in Hayward, Wisconsin.
> “African Americans aren’t allowed in the library, except
> as allowed by law”.
That is an excellent point, and a way to take the issue to the public, by putting up paper signs with this disclaimer on them, especially near black churches. It’s almost guaranteed that, ignorant of the dispute, the local racial agitators would agitate about this to great hilarity.
As icing on the cake, it might even be modified to say:
“African Americans *with guns* aren’t allowed in the library, except as allowed by law”.
I am good for legal guns in my library.
In fact, I just had a crowd of folks in, but, they were all police officers in to arrest a customer. Fortunately, he was the wrong guy.
The guns don’t bother me. It is the gun users that I worry about.
