Boehner Calls Opponents To TARP "Knuckledraggers"
RealClearPolitics ^ | Tuesday August 14, 2012

VAN SUSTEREN, FOX News: People think of him as hawkish on the budget, on expenses, but he voted for TARP. He voted for the auto bailout, voted for two stimulus in '08, voted against the '09 -- February '09 President Obama stimulus. How does -- I mean, how does he explain those, or I mean, how does -- politically, how does he sell that?

BOEHNER: I mean, I think that he's a practical conservative. He's got a very conservative voting record, but he's not a knuckle-dragger, all right? He understood that TARP, while none of us wanted to do it, if we were going to save -- save our economy, save the world economy, it had to happen. I wish we didn't have to do it, either, but he understood that.

We get yapped at when we try to hold his feet to the fire now and he’s not even the official nominee.

You’re so bright, who IS he calling knuckle draggers then?

In a word: Michele Bachmann. Maybe not Michele specifically, but her caricature: reps who look for any excuse to oppose consensus legislation to play up how conservative they are (at least in his view) -- and birthers and Paulites and, well, probably a good chunk of FR (probably including me, depending on the issue). It was a candid and unwise description and not exactly a surprise considering Boehner is an establishemt conservative who has spent many years in the DC bubble.

What is was not was a statement that TARP opponents are knuckledraggers. He indicated in the article that even those who voted for it were opposed on principle but considered it a necessary evil.

Boehner was dropped on his head as a baby as often as was Biden.

Boehner has the aptitude to ladle out food in the House cafeteria, but anything more demanding than that is completely beyond his limitations.

To-do list:

1. Defeat JugEars
2. Replace Boehner with a Tea Party conservative
3. Replace McConnell with a Tea Party conservative.

My congressman was one of the knuckledraggers the GOP threw overboard for voting against TARP and I was stuck with one of Nancy Pelosi’s poolboys for two years.

In 2010 we sent our knuckledragger back to congress against the wishes of the GOPe.

They were all terrified and I understand that. Now it’s time to admit they made a mistake.

I heard the complete quote. He called a good chunk of the republican party, in this case those who were against TARP, knuckledraggers.

Boehner doesn’t have a very high opinion of people like me.

There is NOTHING conservative about taxing the unborn, duffus. This nation hired a 'compassionate' conservative whose real claim to fame was his name and willingness to work with liberals. That worked out so well that the liberals handed him his head and replaced him with the bottom of the barrel leftist.

These politicians sure have a 'god' complex when they use taxpayers dollars to claim credit for saving.

Lastly, as I read his words it initially sounded like the wailing Speaker was rooting for Obama.

Boehner has no intention of holding Romney's feet to the fire (should he walk out of the Convention as the nominee, and if he wins the election).

He's much beholden to Romney for making this effort to get Ryan out the way!

When Romney's current and former staffers and close friends get done with Ryan, he'll be a gelded Vice President as well.

It's the same old same old with the GOP-e. They must be purged NOW ~ not later!

My understanding is they still believe it was necessary. I don't expect many minds have changed or will in the next decade since there's no 'proof' not passing TARP wouldn't lead to fiscalgeddon.

Let’s for the sake of argument say these banks were too big to fail. Ok then break them up. Here we are 4 years later and they are STILL too big to fail and run by people that are too stupid to succeed.

It is insanity.

TARP only delayed the inevitable, and made the inevitable even worse.

What we're gonna do right here is go back, way back, back into time. When the only people that existed were troglodytes...cave men... cave women...Neanderthal...troglodytes. Let's take the average cave man at home, listening to his stereo

Yep. Its like dealing with a bunch of battered spouses. They insist that it’ll get better. That next time it won’t happen......

...and that we’re the jerks because we point out the bruises on their faces.
