According to the article they are looking at governance, integrity, and finances.
This issue is beyond the athletics department since the president’s office and police didn’t take action to protect the children.

Revoked accreditation keeps the institution’s students from getting federal financial aid and many established scholarship funds and grant programs. Most graduate programs require that the bachelor’s come from an accredited institution. The school is also suspended from NCAA activities.
They want money like the NCAA got. Of course, any money they do get from Penn State will have to be handled under the table because accreditation is such a fair and upstanding process. A few years ago here in Wake County(Raleigh), when the control of the school board was won by Republicans, they kept their promise to quit busing kids all over the county and keep it local.
