Guess what, a lot of main stream Protestants tithe, or give 10 percent to their churches. I know a nice family man hard working guy, not me, who actually does tithe to his conservative Lutheran church, the synod that says the pastor must be a man and a member can be homosexual or lesbian, but not advertise it or practice the sex part of it as the act is an abomination.

Freedom of religion means we tolerate all who observe God or a similar belief system in a manner that does not keep others from their proper worship, not have government force us to observe one religion over another or be anti religion, plus members should act within American laws and morals [no multiple wives and no bombing other churches or public buildings, etc.].

No comparison.

Protestants might be encouraged to do that; Mormons are Required

No tithe, No temple recommend
No temple recommend, no getting to see your son or daughter married (in Lds temple)
No temple recommend, no "celestial kingdom" for you
No celestial kingdom for you, no living with your Mormon spouse & children/etc. forever in that kingdom
No celestial kingdom, no Mormon godhood for you
No celestial kingdom, no living forever with Heavenly Father

The consequences of not kowtowing to Lds legalism is steep (well, that's the way they bill it, anyhow)
