Reading so many of the crotchety-assed, prissy posts on this thread I am reminded of the last song of the ceremony itself, the Who’s “My Generation.”

Isn’t it just like so many of us, fat or balding, having buried friends and parents, disillusioned, cynical, and still so self righteous, to attack from behind a keyboard somewhere those artists who are as old or older than we are but who still put it on the line to entertain people. Isn’t it just like the archetypal sour old fart to look at a spectacle like this two-week global celebration of youth and sport and excellence and international camaraderie and say “Bah! Can’t stand all that rap music.”

...And yet feel compelled to MAKE that comment, as if holding on to some shred of relevance, as if also wanting to perform and have approval, as if it were possible, somehow, to prove wrong the march of time, and not fade away.

BEST POST IN THE THREAD! I enjoyed it from the first minute of the opening ceremony through the end of the closing ceremony. Piss on the whining, miserable old, Ebeneezer Scrooge wannabe geezers in here.

At least they did play a lot of good 80s stuff, and kept the rap to a minimum.

But that “Jessie J” who mangled “We Will Rock You” has to go.
