Is a gun like a virus, a car, tobacco or alcohol? Yes say public health experts, who in the wake of recent mass shootings are calling for a fresh look at gun violence as a social disease.
What we need, they say, is a public health approach to the problem, like the highway safety measures, product changes and driving laws that slashed deaths from car crashes decades ago, even as the number of vehicles on the road rose.
.............Dr. David Satcher tried to make gun violence a public health issue when he became CDC director in 1993. Four years later, laws that allow the carrying of concealed weapons drew attention when two women were shot at an Indianapolis restaurant after a patron's gun fell out of his pocket and accidentally fired. Ironically, the victims were health educators in town for an American Public Health Association convention.
That same year, Hargarten won a federal grant to establish the nation's first Firearm Injury Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
"Unlike almost all other consumer products, there is no national product safety oversight of firearms," he wrote in the Wisconsin Medical Journal.
That's just one aspect of a public health approach. Other elements:.......
......Disease patterns, observing how a problem spreads. Gun ownership a precursor to gun violence can spread "much like an infectious disease circulates," said Daniel Webster, a health policy expert and co-director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research in Baltimore.....

Will these same alleged “Doctors” also admit that liberalism and progressivism is a social disease? /s =.=
I think I remember guns being taken from Vets that had been treated to stress syndrome and depression. I remember telling everyone I knew that if you are a gun owner I wouldn’t advise going to a Dr. for depression or anxiety and be careful what you say and having it in your file because of the healthcare and records not being private. This will be an (un)intended consequence of ths nonsense.

Trofim Lysenko - “...Though for a period the Soviet government under Stalin continued its support of agricultural scientists, after 1935 the balance of power abruptly swung towards Lysenko and his followers. Lysenko was put in charge of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the Soviet Union and made responsible for ending the propagation of “harmful” ideas among Soviet scientists. Lysenko served this purpose by causing the expulsion, imprisonment, and death of hundreds of scientists and eliminating all study and research involving Mendelian genetics throughout the Soviet Union. This period is known as Lysenkoism. He bears particular responsibility for the persecution of his predecessor and rival, prominent Soviet biologist Nikolai Vavilov, which ended in 1943 with the imprisoned Vavilov’s death by starvation. In 1941 Lysenko was awarded the Stalin Prize.”....
This whole discussion reminds me of the Soviets classifying dissenters as having “sluggish schizophrenia”. They did not see the “reality” of their paradise and could not change their view of reality, so it was off to the wards and massive psychotropic drugs.
The mass shootings of the last few years were carried out by people who were under the care of mental health professionals or known to them. I’d say the problem is with them.
Come on and get my guns....I will innoculate you, that is my story and I am sticking to it.
My doc and I have an excellent relationship, he does not ask me about my guns and I don’t ask him about the status of his medical loans.
“I refuse to answer that question, doctor.”
“Your attitude is noted and will be made a matter of record, citizen.”
I hereby name whinyass federal-money-sucking doctors as a disease of the big brother class of we-know-best nannies ( or ninnies-—take your pick) .
People will simply hide their guns.
Good job not answering.
The solution to “gun violence” is more guns carried by citizens.
Gun ban laws will only make vitims of more people. Criminals (and some politicians) by definition do not obey laws.
People who disarm themselves because the government says so become subjects, not citizens.
Doctors who participate in this kind of BS should be forced to place signs on the front door of their practice declaring that there are no weapons on the premises. See how they like that.
So a gun falls out of someone's pocket and two people are shot? True story or typical lib BS?
Now we know where the Climate change persecution of scientists BS comes from. This is really scary the stuff one goes through to justify taxation, stealing people’s positions, and going on high government welfare. So much destruction for a little bit of vanity and pride in 100% ownership and psycho possession.
Yep, they need to sober up, like those inner cities where they all think might makes right and then they get the National Guards coming in and they scurry out like rats.
