COCOA, Florida -- The Annual Gun Buy Back is taking place in Cocoa on Thursday, August 16, 2012 with the Cocoa Police Department and Rockledge Police Department. Brevard residents have the opportunity to turn in guns in exchange for a gift card, according to Public Information Officer Barbara Matthews with the Cocoa Police Department.

The Annual Gun Buy Back will begin at 7:00 am on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the Byrd Plaza Parking Lot, located at 801 Dixon Boulevard in Cocoa. Each vehicle will have the opportunity of turning in up to two guns in exchange for a $50 gift card to either Publix, Walmart, or Winn Dixie per gun. The event will last until the gift cards are gone, so citizens with guns are advised to arrive early.

Cocoa and Rockledge Police Departments ask citizens to please put the gun or guns (limit 2) into the trunk of your vehicles, unloaded if possible. As you turn into the Byrd Plaza Parking Lot, you will be instructed where to go.

If you have any questions, please contact Officer Barbara Matthews at (321) 637 - 6309.

This sounds like a good opportunity to pick up some nice old guns. Any functioning gun is worth more than $50 dollars. Private sales are legal in Florida, as they are in most states. If I were there, I would have a sign saying cash for guns, and I might get a chance to get some nice ones.

I was just going to inquire about that. Would there be anything to prevent a private citizen from doing it?

Oh, they would come up with something.
Remember during ‘cash for clunkers’ the dealers either had to break the windshield or make the vehicle inoperable?

I love the one line in the text ‘unloaded if possible’.

Ye, just what we need some ‘welfare queen’ with her 12 kids in tow hopping in her ‘Escelade’ going down to get her $50 walmart card with a loaded AK47 (sarc) casually thrown on the back seat.
Figure Jambalaya and Crawfishpiea picking said weapon up, saying “what this round thing with that thing hanging underneath” “I don’t know, just pull it back”.

As Jerry would say ‘Oh, this is gonna work out just fine’.

This also sounds like a good opportunity to follow an unarmed wimpy target back to their unsecured home.

I was thinking the same thing. A block before have a ‘cash for guns’ sign and see what you come up with.
