Let's say there is a small town with only 100 registered voters and two candidates are running for mayor, including the incumbent who is a scoundrel. However, the challenger doesn't particularly excite anybody. So 40 of the voters, who detest the incumbent, don't even bother to vote because the challenger isn't the perfect candidate they were hoping for. As a result, the incumbent wins re-election by a vote of 40-30.
I believe the above paragraph utterly destroys your sophomoric argument.
No, it doesn’t. The incumbent didn’t win due to 40 voters sitting out. He won because people voted for him.
Just a side note, 40 + 30 + 40 = 110 votes with 100 registered voters.
