That's just not true. There are plenty of people, especially at a relatively large, urban, school like Columbia, who quietly get good grades while not being noticed. Especially as a transfer student, it's not really surprising that Obama didn't stand out at Columbia.
Actually your assertion is what’s simply not true. I don’t care how “low profile” or incognito you try to make yourself, if you attend a college or university, even a big monster like UCLA where they go through like cattle, somebody will notice you. In fact they may notice you precisely by your peculiar “low profile” non-interaction, but they will notice you. It’s a sea of faces, thousands of eyes, millions of glances, passing in cooridors, classrooms, cafeterias, registrar’s office, book stores, parking lots etc. The only way you can go completely 100% unnoticed by anyone is if you were never there, and your “recollection” of being there is a fabrication. Period.
