As a Texan, let me agree with you that whites are not predominant, but if you dont count illegals, that changes the situation. And even Gov Perry was threatening secession a couple of years ago. Texas very well could secede.

He didn't threaten secession, he played the consummate politician, pretended to agree with some people talking about secession, and then issued a denial through the Governor's office stating that he would never support secession.

This is what he originally said in April of 2009 that made gullible people think he actually supports secession:

There's a lot of different scenarios. Texas is a unique place. When we came into the union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave if we decided to do that.... My hope is that America, and Washington in particular, will pay attention. We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, who knows what may come of that? But Texas is a very unique place, and a pretty independent lot to boot.

About a month ago, I stood with a bipartisan group of Texas legislators to speak in support of a resolution honoring the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The resolution simply restates the Constitution's principle of Federalism, that powers not granted to the national government nor prohibited to the states are reserved to the states or the people.

At a time when the federal government is passing trillion-dollar bailouts, bullying states to increase taxes and bureaucracies, and even taking control of private companies, Americans are increasingly reconnecting with the concept of limited government contained in that amendment.

I can’t say I was surprised that critics worked so hard to recast my defense of federalism and fiscal discipline into advocacy for secession from the Union. Of course, I have never advocated for secession and never will.

Hopefully you as a Texan know that Perry will say whatever he can to please whatever crowd he is in front of, only to walk it back later on if he gets any pressure on it. There is a reason why he is called Slick Rick.
