Updated at 7:05 a.m. ET: A massive fire struck at the core of Chevron's large Richmond, Calif., refinery on Monday, spewing flames and a column of smoke into the air, and threatening a prolonged outage that may increase prices of U.S. gasoline.
The fire was contained by 11 p.m. (2 a.m. ET), but not extinguished, according to the company. The fire has blazed for hours after it erupted at the refinery in a densely populated industrial suburb east of San Francisco. Smoke could be seen billowing over the Bay Area and four train stations were shut.
Thousands of local residents were temporarily ordered to stay indoors and shut all windows and doors after the fire hit the sole crude unit at the 245,000 barrel per day plant, which accounts for one-eighth of California state's refining capacity

Great...we just hit $4 gas in Wisconsin from the last fiasco.
Was wondering, can’t imagine what they have to refine for there would ever end up out here in the midwest. But, who knows.
More than likely it will only affect petroleum products like Delo oil and greases. I have been there with my dad when he used to haul cases of motor oil out.
Granted its just speculation, but then again the price of gas would go up on almost any provocation.
Is this not the 3rd refinery fire in the last week??? Sounds suspicious to me.
Lubricants are less than 15% of the production at the Chevron Richmond Refinery.

I agree 100%. Maybe it is a sign that some of the good guys are fighting back. All the underhanded stuff I have noticed seems to come from the Obama side. It would be a relief if they could make him look like the Keystone cop that he is.
There are refinery fires of some sort constantly. Once one grabs attention then you are more likely to notice the others in the news.
And of course if there are 100 refinery fires a year, they’re not going to be evenly-spaced 2 every week. Some weeks there will be 4 of them, some weeks none (there are also time-of-the-year cycles in refinery fires having to do with starting and stopping operations that an actual refinery expert can explain.)
Spot prices in LA jumped 24 cents today
My sister and brother-in-law live in a boat in a marina about a mile from the refinery. She posted some pictures of it burning. They got evacuated to a local bar that allowed their dog to come in, too.
Late last night, they were allowed back in. She said the alarms kept going off and there was soot every where, but the winds had shifted, so other folks could experience the joys of evacuation.
