In a statement issued by the White House in the early morning hours Monday, President Obama congratulated NASA for the successful landing of the rover Curiosity on Mars.
"Tonight, on the planet Mars, the United States of America made history," he said in the statement. "The successful landing of Curiosity - the most sophisticated roving laboratory ever to land on another planet - marks an unprecedented feat of technology that will stand as a point of national pride far into the future. It proves that even the longest of odds are no match for our unique blend of ingenuity and determination.

I’m opposed to spending TAXPAYER $$ on space exploration, but I’d make an exception if we could send Sheila Jackson Lee to Mars (one-way)
When does “Curiosity” start beaming back Obama-Biden campaign commercials?
This morning’s (Eastern Standard Time) Mars Rover Landing was eight years in the making, and Obama’s only contribution was that he didn’t get in the way of it.
I stayed up watching the Live Feed from NASA, from before until long after the landing.
The two best parts were the landing itself, 1st and foremost, and the over-joyed and very joyous (and long) reaction at JPL in Pasadena once the rover was on the ground.
The worst part was very early in the start of the first press conference, after a few introductions, when we had to listen to Obama’s two political appointees, the head of NASA and Obama’s top science adviser, praise the mission while trying to mention Obama’s name as often as possible in the process - it was sickening.
Thankfully, they were given their time early and then the real heroes could begin to take questions.
Went to bed about 4:AM EST.
The Curiosity Mars Rover project has so far cost each American about $7. For what it has accomplished (the technological applications developed for it) and for what we may learn from it, it seems like a small investment. Americans spend more than that each week on junk.

What, we can’t say anything about Slasher and Masher now?
“...now that we’ve landed on Mars,” said the President, “...it’s now onto the other 57 moons.”
I’m wondering how long it will be before he apologizes to the world because it’s just not fair that we have the technology to land a spacecraft on Mars and other countries can’t.

What the hell you talking about?
It costs me at least that much every day to support our growing army of parasites.
“It costs me at least that much every day to support our growing army of parasites.”
So let’s quit supporting them. I’m for that.
And, If we did, we could have sent two Mars Rovers instead of one. LOL
I suppose the Curiosity program was already too far along in development for him to have killed it.
