"Unexpected Swallowing of a Knife" -- that's a grabbier title than most ones you see in medical journals.
The short item, a clinical image in this week's New England Journal of Medicine, explains that a 30-year-old woman with a history of bulimia had been bragging to friends that she no longer had a gag reflex. She put the knife into her mouth and then laughed -- at which point she swallowed the knife.

No need to fight over the chocolate... There is plenty for everyone...
Oh, my!
Do my eyes believe me? That looks like something I might want to do...in my other life! LOL! How long did you look for that, DC?
And in other areas...how is the progress on your forge, and any upgrades to your house? How are the children and do you have any recent piccies of all of the above? I know...there’s always facebook, but that is so cluttered...
You back from Walmart?
The Stig made me laugh today. Yesterday, I cleaned his cage and gave him some lettuce, and of course this morning, what was left was wilted. He was in his favorite corner, next to my left shoulder, and he was doing his little humble chirpy thing, and I looked at him and saw behind my eyes, a perfect millet spray.
I asked him if that was what he wanted and he began to pace rapidly back and forth from the clip to about 6” out. I got the bag with millet sprays and held one up and I thought he was going to stroke out! LOL!
It was no sooner in the clip than he began to peck at it and try to chirp his thanks to me at the same time!
Kids are ok. House is coming along. Need one last piece of trim for the bathroom and it's done. Need to add a handrail and modify the gap on the riser for the steps and the deck is done.
We lost an oak tree though. Did minor damage to the siding on our chimney. That's what I'll be working on tonight... Weather permitting...
Wow. You’ve come a long way since TX. It sounds like life has been very good to all of you.
Are you still considering life in the Black Hills?
Dragon-Baby was so hungry this morning that she ate some of yesterday’s leftover kale ... glaring balefully at certain Male Family Members who are supposed to put her first, darnit! She’s gotten fat - she could go for days without eating and not suffer any harm.
The Stig is obviously an appreciative pet, not like hoomins who aren’t happy with what they’re given.
The Stig’s little song and dance today made me appreciate him so much more! It’s no wonder he is so bonded to me, with him right at my shoulder.
Here’s hoping that my move into a one-bedroom won’t give him separation anxiety! I do have some friends who will take him when I come to visit, and they are compassionate and have tried to interact with him, so I won’t worry when I visit with all y’all!
I’m also considering a dog or cat when I have bigger digs (I’m officially on the list, now!) but it will cost me $250 for the non-refundable deposit.
I’ll save some nickels for your Pet Bribe Fund. I think the Airfare Fund topped out today. I’ll have to count it up, and then stash it in a safe location until it’s time to buy a ticket.
Whoa! I am so blessed! Thank you for your generosity! :o])
;p
Heh heh heh heh heh.
Congrats to K re: her tooth! They figured out that I had a tooth when someone yelled, “Yeeeooowww!”
I don’t find teeth much of a problem with regard to nursing, but when they decide to just bite a piece out of random limb, that’s a real pain. Frank was quite a biter, at the worst possible times, like while I was singing in church. He would get a manic gleam in his eye and say, “Bite ...,” and then CHOMP! into my shoulder or upper arm. Little monster.
Heh. If you were here, I’d give you chicken casseroles and the fruit salad with the Cool Whip. Since you’re not, the least I can do is help you bribe your landlord so you can have a kitteh or a fine, lethargic Ash-dog.
Depends on if the right opportunity arises. I still have my weekly searches running, but the job market sucks out there for what I’m looking for. I work with some good folks, so it isn’t that urgent...
You’ll soon be coming up to your busy season, won’t you?
Got all your tools lined up? The meters, crimping tools, bull whips ...
I quit using credit cards about 10 years ago so I am debt free except for my house. I'll need to buy a car because I had a company car. I can live of my emergency fund for about a year if I don't waste money buying too many shoes, but I would have a better retirement if I didn't use up all my savings before I got a new job. I would rather travel the country visiting y'all. Do any of you need new shoes? Then go to wal-mart because I not selling them.
well... yet.
If you’d like to walk to North Carolina, you can camp out in our yard! And if you wear your shoes out, we probably have some in your size! It’s warmer here than Chicago, and there’s less chance of a shootout, too.
Best wishes on your job search. We’re pulling for you!
