Once it’s on the ground I hope they keep Howard Wolfowitz away from the controls.

Big Bang Theory is one of the best tv shows to come along in a long, long time. Hilarious!

Americans did this! Not Russians, not Chinese, not the French. I am so thankful that this nation can still accomplish such engineering feats. Under President Newt we could accomplish so much more.

I believe that’s entirely an illusion (psycho-sensory distortion). Apparent size as you perceive it is bigger near the horizon but actual angle subtended is slightly less. There is no actual magnification at all.

If it’s just an illusion and there is no magnification, then why can we see features on a Harvest Moon with the naked eye that would normally require a telescope to see?

"...but this is one of my favorite images of the Martian surface."

Looks very much like my place in July this summer--clouds and all (over 9,000 feet here).

Oops...June and halfway through July. There was only sparse, patchy, dried out, very short plant life here.

Yep..no doubt about it. I’ve seen those skies in the deep southwest. I love that image.

"Several dust devils cross a plain in this animation..."

Very much like my place in June, except that this a high basin (more like a plateau) between mountain ranges. Extreme low temps with high winds during winter.

Chessplayer, It’s all in your head. Hold up a quarter at arm’s length and compare sizes. No difference. Sometimes I wake up at night and think I can see things in the semi-darkness. They aren’t really there. All in the neurons.
