It may be that because the Rover will be landing in a deep crater and the Earth will be setting on Mars, a direct link
will not be possible, thus using Odyssey as a relay link.
You can watch the news conference at ustream.com.
They talked about Odyssey, but never mentioned a Direct link
from the Rover to earth.
Just out of curiosity, did you confuse me with someone else's post?
5.56mm
07:40 LMST, solar elevation 33.7, still 13 minutes 47 seconds light speed delay between Mars and Earth at the site.
But what do I know, I'm just a cook. ;)

You just had to go there. ;)
Evening. Going to join the geeks to watch the newest hardware hit Mars?

Getting off work in 10 minutes.
Go home, have dinner, hope to find some coverage on my crappy cable service, otherwise, I hope my DSL is working fine tonight.
Go Curiosity!

American Exceptionalism didn’t do this. Didn’t do any of it. The government did it all. Or, so Obama would have you believe.
So 1000 years from now when some archeologist finds that 1909 Lincoln Penny on Mars they’ll be saying “Damn, we had our dates all wrong, man first sent probes here 100 years earlier than we thought.”
Actually, they said if the “roll” of Odyssey was sucessful,
Odyssey would be able to film the landing. I read in another
article that Odyssey had a part go down several weeks ago, they tried to use a backup on a test Roll and Odyssey went
into safe Mode.
I think on the first pass of Odyssey, they want to try to capture the entire 7 Minute landing on camera, thus the “Roll”.
If that doesn’t work, they said that Odyssey would pass over
again with-in 2 Hours and be able to communicate with the rover, to confirm landing, and relay that to earth.
They said it could take up to 2 hours to confirm landing
on Mars.

Indonesia was planning on sending up a dog once - but Obama ate it.....

LOL. It will “land” on Mars one way or another.
Wishing the Rover a Safe landing, as well.
Also hoping Odyssey can make it’s “roll” and we will
get news of a safe landing, sooner than later.
Nah... by then, yutes will have stripped all the copper and plutonium off so they can buy some malt liquor.

PS,
For those who get The Science Channel, on their Cable Company, it will have a special on at 10PM EDT on Curiousity.
That is sad. My source was a book from the 1970s. I know the euthanasia system was in provided, but now it turns out it wasn’t used.
I'll follow online at the live feed.

Could end up being a great week!
Cruz wins Texas On Tuesday
Chick-Fil-A Breaks Sales Records On Wednesday
Rover lands safely on Mars.
T minus 4 hours and counting...
Sorry, it was supposed to be to another post. Not sure how I tagged you.
Earth is about 20 degrees north and a little east of overhead at the landing site.
