Women don’t normally use a gun to commit suicide and they don’t normally kill their children. This is a big stretch to rule it murder/suicide.

Regardless, had I heard a gunshot, knowing that my spouse and children were in the house, I would have checked on their security first rather than called the police first. Had I feared for their safety, a logical fear, I’d have gone to help or at least to make sure that they were safe rather than call the cops at the sound of gunshots. Now, had he immediately dialed 911 WHILE racing to see what had happened or was going on, then yeah, that might work, but it sounds a bit off to me as written.
