GLENDALE, Mo. A suburban St. Louis woman with a history of depression bought a gun two days before she killed her two children and herself while her husband was in another part of the house, authorities said Friday.
Mitchell Murch II called police Monday to report that he heard shots. Police who responded found 42-year-old Catherine Murch in the kitchen, 10-year-old Mitchell Murch III elsewhere on the first floor and 8-year-old Mary Claire Murch on the second floor of the house the well-to-do suburb of Glendale.
Police questioned Mitchell Murch II but said they believed the case was a murder-suicide. Still, nearly two dozen investigators with the St. Louis Area Major Case Squad were assigned to the case.

Special room in hell for this monster.
Such a permanent solution to such a temporary problem.
I do wish she’d shot herself before she shot the kids.

Somethings not right here! What did they own...a 10,000 sq. ft. house? The girl was on the second floor, the boy somewhere on the first, and the mother in the kitchen. The father wasn’t concerned after hearing the first shot?
I’m going to wait for more info before chopping the mother to shreds.
I will say God bless the poor children. Very sad.
This stinks. If she wanted to kill herself and kids in the same house as her husband she would get herself and the kids together in the same room.
Oh boy” Here we go again. Gun control, gun control. Make it stop!
“Somethings not right here!”
I thought that this case seemed odd when I read it. The husband is in the house and she is able to kill two kids (in different locations) and then herself? I am not saying that women don’t do this type of insanity but I also hope the police check out if the husband has a mistress and a large life insurance policy on his late wife. Prayers for the children... whatever the police find out.. they were totally innocent and victims of pure evil. IMHO.
Maybe the husband did it
I agree with ‘not passing the smell test’ - you’d think she’d start with the husband, or wait until he was out of the house. Wandering from floor to floor and room to room while he’s in another part of the house?
I had read another story that said the Police were looking more closely at the husband. I suppose its possible she used a pillow or something to muffle the shot to the girl upstairs. That same article said the Husband heard the first shot and thought it came from outside so he was investigating that when he heard the other two shots. The truth always seems to come out eventually.
If the husband was reading (like he said), he had to hear the first shot (the little girl). The wife then had to go up a flight of stairs and then the husband heard several more shots. Was he reading the entire time? I am on my first floor right now. If I heard anything that sounded like a gun shot, my tushy would be up and running to see what happened. Sounds fishy to me. IMHO
I’m so tired of “Depression” and “mental illness” being thrown around by default whenever someone commits murder.
If she has a “history of depression”, then she probably has a history of ingesting antidepressant drugs.
Those drugs and suicide go hand in hand.
Then it seems like the husband had a built-in excuse. I’ll kill them all and blame my severly depressed nut of a wife.
Her depression couldn’t have been post partum, kids were older. So, what caused her depression, a cheating husband? Why didn’t she kill him too? Time will tell.
No way hubby was reading the whole time she was going up and down stairs and shooting the boy several times. Sounds like the boy tried to escape meaning there was more time in there. Maybe the cops are trying to play hubby by making him believe they’re going with suicide. Whatever, it doesn’t pass the smell test.
I read the story originally in the UK Daily Mail and it showed that it was very large house, two story. Seems that the husband is wealthy. So it is possible that he didn't hear the gun shots.
I agree that this sounds off. Had I heard a gunshot somewhere in the house while my spouse and children were there, I’d have investigated BEFORE calling the police. I would not have called first. No way.
“and a large life insurance policy on his late wife.”
Whether it is still true or not I do not know but it used to be that insurance policies didn’t pay off for suicide.
Even if the husband did it he still would not collect a dime.
“Im so tired of Depression and mental illness being thrown around by default whenever someone commits murder.”
Where would you place “blamd” if not “depression” and “mental illness”.
A completely sane person who is not depressed commits suicide?
