The BLS is probably fudging those numbers as well. I do not understand how teachers returning from summer can be counted as “found employment”.
That only makes sense if they were counted as unemployed when summer recess started. I don't believe that is the case--teachers don't draw unemployment all summer, as far as I know!
At the state workforce center (aka unemployment office) we took credit for anything, even day labor jobs, even if they lasted an hour, and that was in the 1980s and 90’s. Even “obtained employment” counts (jobseeker found work, not through our referral, but after we “assisted” them in any way) and I’m sure they’re even more creative nowadays.
