Adam Smith, former CFO and treasurer of medical supplies manufacturer Vante, riled people up today when he put up a video of himself bullying a Chick-fil-A drive-thru employee in Tucson on YouTube.
Smith unsympathetically berates the worker in the video, which was initially titled Reduce $s to Chick-Fil-As Hate Groups. It has since been taken down (though other have uploaded it too).
Im a nice guy, by the way totally heterosexual," he says to the worker. "Not a gay in me, I just cant stand the hate.
Smith has now been fired from his job at Vante. Here's the press release from Vante announcing that Smith is "no longer an employee of our company," effective immediately:

Man needs a big old mirror with a spotlight attached to it. He lives in bizarro world if he sees hate in CFA but thinks he is full of love.
“....dont feel someone should be fired to expressing political views....”

Sorry, that wasn’t why he was fired. He was fired for bullying and intimidating a young lady who was just trying to do her job professionally.
This prompt and correct action reflects credit on his former employer in my opinion.
He wasn’t expressing a political view.
He was being an asshole to an innocent young lady.
I’m still trying to wrap my head around the line in the article that said the gay employees are “getting from both ends”.
Watch for him to get a gig on MSNBC!!!!!
Indeed. People who fear losing their jobs for speaking out.. Oh wait, that already IS the case today. However, there surely MUST be more to this story. He wasn’t even at his own job when this occurred. Big deal. Gotta be something more here.
Caused potential harm to employer. His actions could affect the sales of his employer. If this clown is representative of a Vante employee, I would not do business with them. Read the fine print of your employment agreement.
Sounds like Professor Smarty Boy is not the sharpest push pin on the bulletin board.
I want to marry her. And I think I’m qualified, since I’m normal.
(So what kind of doofus would put an obnoxious video on the internet under his real name??????)
This is not a free speech matter. The right to free speech under the Constitution applies only to government action. There is no right to free speech whatsoever in the private sector.
awfully hateful for someone who “can’t stand the hate “
That’s still covered under the First Amendment; Assholes are protected. Maybe if we had more protected assholes we’d have fewer gays (Drum roll, Rim shot).
my guess is that this wasn’t the only reason he was sacked. He was an ignorant jerk, but if he was a very good employee, they could have overlooked it and have him issue an apology.
It was at lunchtime -- company time -- on a weekday.
Never seen a more thoroughly satisfying fisking.
Went over to DUmmieland to get their bed wetting take on this. They're ignoring it as they do often when not even they can defend the indefensible.
I didn’t watch the full video.
I’d approve of his right to hold up a sign and shout in a safe place.
Don’t want Christians fired for posting pictures of themselves eating at CAF. I’ve read about Christians fired for telling co-workers they oppose “gay marriage.”
When do polygamists start suing?
He looks like he might have had some ‘gay in him’ at some point.
