I remember Gladys Gooding. As a Yankee fan, I never attended an Ebbetts Field game. However, growing up in the Bronx, I remember that Gladys, along with Ansel Sweet, used to play the organ in the main dining room of Mayer’s Parkway Restaurant on E. 233rd St. in the Bronx. Plus, I remember her from playing the organ in the former Madison Square Garden.
The organist should send that umpire a dozen roses for the publicity. Stadium management knows that anything that brings the crowd in is good for business, even a snarky organist.
He’ll probably get a raise and be told to come up with other tunes that get a rise out of the umpires.
Yep, the organist if he plays his cards right is set for life!
Roses on the piano, tulips on the organ...
