Most Americans back the idea of extending health coverage to their low-income neighbors through the government's Medicaid program, unless it means higher costs for their own state, according to a new poll.
In a survey released on Tuesday by the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation, 67 percent of respondents gave a favorable view of President Barack Obama's healthcare reform provision to "expand the existing Medicaid program to cover more low‐income, uninsured adults."
Support for the idea, which would expand coverage to as many as 16 million uninsured Americans, broke sharply along partisan lines. Nearly nine out of 10 survey participants who said they were Democrats and two-thirds of independents backed the expansion. Six out of 10 Republican participants said they opposed it.
Support dropped to 49 percent when poll participants were asked whether they would like to see Medicaid expanded in their home states, and a slight majority of 52 percent preferred maintaining the status quo when pollsters suggested an expansion could cost their states more money.

Free healthcare for all!
How awesome.
Of course. Gimme gimme gimme and make the rich pay for it. 80 years of the Welfare State have turned us into a nation of moochers.
The Demonrat party should change its name to the Dole party. And I don’t mean Bob Dole.
LOL, did anyone read this? People want an expansion of Medicare “UNLESS IT RESULTS IN INCREASED COSTS IN THEIR OWN STATE”
So no one will want it because of course it will increase costs.

I do not understand this. Why is it most americans would favor expansion of Medicare but not favor ObamaCare? Why didn’t Obama just try to expand Medicare instead of pushing on the rope of obamacare?
Looks like the Al-Reuters headline writer is a bit biased for Obamugabe.
Can't verify any accuracy because for every state poll done they would just claim it wasn't for that state.

I am SHOCKED! (not)
The headline was purely bogus and should have stated the exact opposite result of the one it did rwport. Go to the Reuters sit (follow link) and rewad the comments. Every one of them picked up on this fraudulent conclusion by Reuters.
Then to boot it was a poll among “adults” and not even Reg or Likely voters. Not even fit to use as a toilet paper substitute.

Everyone wanting to sponge off of the government employees and other recipients of government incomes: those described as the mighty taxpayers of today. Terrible.
All medical subsidies and insurance rackets should be shut down. That would lower medical costs, although sadly, many would lose their bids to be among the Borg and live forever.
But socialist favored constituents—more in or linked to local governments (with federal funding) for one political party and more federal recipients for the other party. So we’ll continue the slide through the default process. Have fun. Enjoy the slide.
I hope all the progressive states immediately expand their Medicaid programs and advertise day and night about the expansion. Get all the illegals, slackers, criminals, and bottom feeders on the programs in those progressive states. I know I will end up paying for them through Federal taxes, but they will leave Texas and the other conservative states that refuse to expand Medicaid. The pluses for Texas and other states are overwhelming. Think about it. Unemployment, welfare, social services, policing, crime, etc., we will come out light years ahead if these takers move to the progressive states. But the biggest benefit of all is that they will leave. Don’t believe me, think to the 1970s when Mass. raised its welfare and social services handout and they were flooded with Puerto Ricans moving from NY to Mass because the freebies were better.
Incredibly ignorant statement.
Medicaid is a state/federal system. ANY increase in system participation means automatic increases in the amount of funds the state must contribute.
And 67% of the people think this is a great idea? Lunatics!
IOW those who aren’t paying for any of this “Free Stuff” now are all in favor of not paying for more of it to be given to those who aren’t paying for it either. Bizarro!
Because Obama [and the Dems in general] cared less about expanding coverage for the poor than they did about increasing government's influence on the private insurance market.
But, you knew that.
But, you knew that.
***No, I’m dense enough not to have known that. I don’t see what “increasing government’s influence on the private insurance market” gets them, especially since it would probably happen anyways under a Medicare expansion.
