Those dissatisfied moderates hit Boehner with a one-two punch Monday.
First, the Columbus Dispatch reported that Rep. Steve LaTourette had abruptly decided to retire. That decision shocked many Republicans, in part because LaTourette who like Boehner is a from Ohio has had, at least until recently, an extremely close relationship with the Speaker.
At the same time, Syracuse Republican Rep. Hanna harshly criticized the GOP, arguing leadership has gone too far in deferring to the demands of conservatives. I have to say that Im frustrated by how much we I mean the Republican Party are willing to give deferential treatment to our extremes in this moment in history, Hanna told the Post-Standard.
According to Republicans, moderate members of the House GOP conference feel that Boehner, who has struggled with an often raucous and openly defiant right wing, has forced them to go along with conservative demands but has provided them little in return.
One Republican familiar with the dynamics within the GOP argued part of the difficulty for Boehner has been the fact that conservatives -- and not moderates -- have been the "squeaky wheel" within the conference, which has forced him to focus on them for much of the 112th Congress.
Rather than work with his entire conference Boehner has had to "prove to conservatives constantly that he's advocating for them and not screwing them behind their backs," the Republican said.
Boehner remains deeply popular within his conference, and despite the frustration of moderates he faces virtually no chance of an effort oust him as Speaker.
Although a spokesman for Boehner declined to comment, one Republican lawmaker privately downplayed Hanna's complaints, noting that pushing back against leadership is a favored past time of lawmakers in swing districts like Hanna's.

That assclown Hanna’s ACU rating for 2011 was a 40... a stinking 40!
There are rats with better ratings than that.
What a shocker, ButtFeed trying to make the GOP-e look anything but “moderate” or even in any way conservative.
The split of the Tea Party from the GOP (and consignment of the latter to Whig status) is inevitable.
It’s a question of when, not if.
Why does it seem like the deadline for that is way overdue . . . ?
Okay.. And LaTourette’s ACU rating for 2011 was less than 67.
The guy’s another rat.
The country is in desperate need of bold actions and the Vichy GOP are the last to seek bold action.

Hanna has been very clear about his stands from his first run for office - he’s a right-leaning independent who runs as a Republican in a NY swing district. Disagree with him on issues but at least he’s open and honest about his beliefs, in contrast to those who talk conservative but push ‘moderation’ behind the scenes.
Maybe true, but the "extremes" in his district are mostly liberal. He gets elected by a modest number of conservatives and a lot of mushy moderates.
The main reason RINO Olympia Snowe gave for leaving in disgust, was the constant criticism of her working with the RATs. She was always touting her "independent spirit" and frequently betrayed her Republican base.
Now, here in Maine, we find out she refuses to help the GOP candidate running for her former seat because "he didn't endorse her in February" before she quit.
The Senate candidate, Charlie Summers, was serving as Maine's Secretary of State, and probably was correct in not taking a partisan position.
How do you explain "Dingy" Harry Reid?
RINOs present as much of a danger as re-electing Obama.
Until they are ‘liberated’ back to their districts , we are all at peril of more getting jerked around and little to slow much less stop our crumbling foundations from continuing to do so.. If that is extreme, so be it.
No loss. I just wish there were more Hanna moderates in Congress instead of so many moonbat liberals. At least the moderates or pragmatists - say, Simpson & Bowles - aren't actively intent on destroying the country and sometimes will go along with common sense reforms.
Some might be a bit slow, but the GOP did that years ago.
(Republican party) - (conservatives) = Democrats
