Mark Neumann, an early favorite who is now third in the polls
Even when unannounced, Thompson was always the favorite.
Hovde's donation to the Doyle campaign in 2004 tells me he is more Carly Fiorina, Brooks Johnson and Michael Huffington and less Ron Johnson and Peter Fitzgerald.
Thompson's attacks on Neumann's voting record is a bit misleading.
Thompson's and Neumann's attacks on Hovde are largely pertinent, though one quotation sounds chopped (about taxes).
Fitzgerald picked the wrong race to run in.
I live in IL, but work in WI. Thompson's minimally acceptable and would maul Baldwin (her election would be akin to giving Madison its own U.S. Senator). Neumann is a very good man, sometimes intemperate, but would get my vote if I could give it to him. Hovde would be easily attacked as a carpet-bagger non-voting money boy, giving the Baldwin people an opening to make the election about his shortcomings.
With the exceptional Ron Johnson as senior senator, I could live with Tommy Thompson as junior senator for one term.

I’ve already voted absentee for Fitzgerald, a true conservative.
Tommy is too old, and was a big spender, and we need someone who can hold the sea for more than one term.
Hovde is an unknown, he strikes me as a Johnson wannabee, he doesn’t live in WI.
Neumann, I will never forgive him for his nasty campaign against Walker during the primary for governor.
