U.S. Senate Candidates to Debate on 'Off the Record'

The three Republican candidates running for Michigan’s U.S. Senate seat have agreed to do their one and only televised debate at WKAR-TV on Thursday, August 2, at 2 p.m.

Pete Hoekstra, Clark Durant and Randall Hekman have agreed to a single moderator, no-rules format in a program to be anchored by senior capitol correspondent Tim Skubick.

This special election-year edition of “Off the Record” will be broadcast by Michigan public television stations across the state as part of the “Off the Record” series.

The 2 p.m. taping will be webcast live at WKAR.org....

This "Off the Record" special will be aired on WKAR-TV Friday, August 3, at 8:30 p.m., with rebroadcasts Saturday at 6 p.m. on WKAR World and Sunday, August 5, at 12:30 and 11:30 p.m. on WKAR-TV. It will be available for on-demand viewing at video.wkar.org beginning Friday.

“Off the Record” is produced by WKAR-TV in East Lansing, Michigan and is distributed statewide. Funding for the production of “Off the Record” is provided in part by Truscott Rossman, MichiganFood & Beverage Association, Michigan Business & Professional Association and Hager Fox.

Here in Indiana the campaign started right after the May primary.

Really not much of a race in my opinion. Pete Hoekstra will likely take it and I predict he'll put up a very strong challenge to Stupidcow.

August is just when we hold our primary. I’m OK with it because things have pretty much settled having it this late.

Me? I'm lucky to have heard two of their names before... Could someone please relieve Debby of these duties and just make Michigan a tie for good verses evil rather than bad copying bad.

I’ll vote for any of them but I think Hoekstra has the best chance. He’s a GOPe type but well to the right of someone like McCain or Snowe.

Heck - man! The guy seems pretty cool. But this is the first I heard of him. I heard Durant's daughters on the radio, they sure sounded cute, but I'm not sure either is enough to unseat Miss Debby.

I like what I hear about Durant but I really don’t have a favorite. I think my final vote will be decided in the booth for this race.
