Two of the last companies I worked for did just that. One took over a competitor in Atlanta, GA and moved the HQ from Pasadena, CA to there. Another had its main operations in Brea, CA and moved to Indianapolis, IN.

Another advantage, for a customer support company, is that having offices on both coasts allows them to cover more of the day without making people work weird hours.
