Take California and New York (and a few clueless nearby states) right along with them. We could make the leftist castoffs into a country like Pakistan once was--with two parts on opposite coasts and a big chunk of a different country inbetween. We could call the country in the middle "America."
The only problem I see with the concept is that the city of Chicago would sit right in the middle, but that could be addresed by creating an island city much like the former West Berlin in political status even though it would continue to be run on an East Berlin ideology.
Should be possible to put a moat all around Chicago ~ or maybe the entirety of Cook county (just to make sure we catch the rich ones too).
A little global warming and that'd be a great place for some of those 30 foot South Asian crocs.
