Bloomberg’s pro-breast-feeding initiative to lock away baby formula at 27 hospitals

The nanny state is going after moms.

Mayor Bloomberg is pushing hospitals to hide their baby formula behind locked doors so more new mothers will breast-feed.

Starting Sept. 3, the city will keep tabs on the number of bottles that participating hospitals stock and use — the most restrictive pro-breast-milk program in the nation.

Under the city Health Department’s voluntary Latch On NYC initiative, 27 of the city’s 40 hospitals have also agreed to give up swag bags sporting formula-company logos, toss out formula-branded tchotchkes like lanyards and mugs, and document a medical reason for every bottle that a newborn receives.

While breast-feeding activists applaud the move, bottle-feeding moms are bristling at the latest lactation lecture.

“If they put pressure on me, I would get annoyed,” said Lynn Sidnam, a Staten Island mother of two formula-fed girls, ages 4 months and 9 years. “It’s for me to choose.”

Under Latch On NYC, new mothers who want formula won’t be denied it, but hospitals will keep infant formula in out-of-the-way secure storerooms or in locked boxes like those used to dispense and track medications.

With each bottle a mother requests and receives, she’ll also get a talking-to. Staffers will explain why she should offer the breast instead.

Baby formula is poison.

Another activist nut job has been heard from.

As Sub-Driver so accurately states, this is a War on Women … specifically, a war on women's right to choose whether or not to breast-feed.

A 'voluntary' approach to making it mandatory to breast-feed? Only in Facistville.

Leonard Bernstein wrote (what should be) the New York-appropriate response to Mayor Bloomberg's latest insanity:

"Gee, Officer Krupke … KRUP YOU!"

First guns, smoking, cooking oil (fast food), salt, soft drinks, baby formula

Give them an inch, they’ll take a mile or more.

We know a lady who inadvertently ate some Yuca chips ~ and both her and the baby stayed up 48 straight hours.

Taking her off the chips fixed the problem.

The whole UN breast feeding scam is simply an attack on Nestle, one of the world's largest producers of infant formula.

It has attracted more than its fair share of commies and nut cases, and they don't care one way or the other about infant health ~ for most of them the only good baby is a dead one anyway.

But what Bloomberg is into is driving down Nestle stock so he can buy some at a bargain price.

The man is scum.

Ya know! I wouldn’t doubt it.

I remember when my sister had her kids around 30 years ago and Nestle was demonized for sending formula to third world countries. The La Leche league screamed “What good will this do without clean water!?!” so they started sending water too. It was never good enough.

Breast milk is only as good as the food the mother gets.

Thanks for your reply, Marie. You did the right thing. It’s ridiculous to be “pc” over formula vs breastfeeding. Mothers need to be left alone in their decision-making. Not have some pansy mayor tell them what to do!

I wonder what the idiot mayor of my city would think of my Sicilian relatives who mix olive oil into their babies’ formulas!

I wonder if Bloomberg’s ex-wife ever slipped a bottle to his children?
I bet he hasn’t a clue.

It depends on what a mother eats, drinks, or recreates? Why is that a problem? Hizzoner can just regulate that as well. In fact, NYC would be better if everyone were just kept in cages with 24/7 monitoring and prescribed feeding and exercise programs. They could be released for work as long as they are escorted by a minder and wear biometric monitoring equipment.

LOL. . .if only. . .As it is; we know this fantasy is not far off their mark; by any equally noxious ideas of 'wish fulfillment' and possibility thinking.

These people are a degradation to behold. They should be loathed. (No, Obama is NOT a 'nice guy'! Matters not a damn; that he can smile the smile.) The engagement of absolute willful ignorance - aka evil - by the Left; must be resisted and overcome.

Can only sleep, by imagining Victory. Of course; this would be easier; if more; knew the enemy/enemies, at hand; including a majority of our Congress. . .

Can remember 'years ago' as our 'Good Government'; fiddled with the restrictions per cigarette smoking. A worthy 'concern'; but should never have been a 'Goverment issue'; or a civil rights issue.

WE know, first and foremost; that the Government cares not at all; about our health! To imagine this; is a case of 'mistaken identity' per the Government's real issues - which would be; controlling your life . (No different than Obamacare.)

To normal people; this seemed a ridiculous contrariety. Now the writing on the wall, is far more clear; and more are recognizing an ugly truth of these Democrats-now-radical Left. Or just those 'Left'. . .

Meantime; many; the 'longer-fed'; educated'; by a zombie 'nanny Gov'; cannot even read the messaging; and those few, who can decipher sufficiently; care not.

(As well; there are those 'care-nots'; who hold themselves in esteem; because they imagine a noble Democrat Party; the Party their parents were loyal to; and thus; so are they. END of their story and rationalization.)

Not a 'willful ignorance' but an unfortunate ignorance; in any event.

I sincerely hope this is actually the Health Department’s initiative, and not Bloomberg’s. Otherwise, Laz is right: Michael Bloomberg is as crazy as a sh!thouse rat!

Nanny State PING!

Bloomberg, amazingly enough, opposes a ban on Chick Fil-A in NYC.
