The press often uses the abbreviation for Representative whenever they report a Democrat Representive getting caught up in corruption in the hopes thei average idiotic Democrat will assume "rep" means the perp is a Republican. Now, if a Republican representative gets similarly caught they don't use the abbreviation for representative, instead they just call him Republican outright.
It's rare when they spell out Democrat that way.
