I notice the clips are loaded so some have the first round on the left, some on the right.

Does not this lead to a 7th round stoppage in some Garands?

ya know....I have a brace of Garands

my first garand had the infamous 7th round stoppage...it is a DCM(now CMP)garand that I bought from the gummint for $123 in 1981....I tried loading the magazines one way then another to no avail....

what I finaly did was replace two small parts. the bullet guide and follower arm ....and bingo....no stoppages ever since then. now I can load up my clips anyway I like and I can fire that Greek surplus ammo all day long without a hiccup.

I've not had this problem, but I usually will ensure all my en bloc clips are loaded the same way (and for some silly reason, I like the right side to be on top).

One thing I have noticed is that the case of CMP ammo from HXP that came in en blocs had a jam problem for just about every clip I used (usually third or fourth round). I pulled them out and compared them to the clips I obtained stateside and noticed the HXP clip wings were closer together, and that they were putting more sideways pressure on the round, and that was jamming the bullet tip up against the opposite side of the chamber (left-side bullet would jam the tip against the right side of the chamber and vice-versa). I unloaded all those clips and tossed them (kept a few for reference). I reloaded all that ammo into my existing clips and haven't had a problem since.
