When I am browsing movie selections one of my key criteria is “does it have Robert Duvall in it?”
His projects have always ranged from outstanding to passably entertaining. I have never seen him in anything that was actually bad.

‘Falling Down’, another good one.

“Seven Days in Utopia” - some marginal acting by bit players, but Duvall is just excellent throughout.

Re:
Secondhand LionsVery enjoyable movie. I first watched it only because a friend owned one of the horses used during filming. It has turned into a favorite. Besides, Duvall and Caine are some of the best actors out there.

Id like to add Tender Mercies to your list.ABSOLUTELY!
What a remarkable film it was and still remains. Robert Duvall transformed himself into Mac Sledge, a down and out Country singer/songwriter who puts his life back together. Duvall rightly won an Oscar for his leading role.
What I find appealing about Tender Mercies is that it's one of the few Hollywood releases that doesn't mock Southerners, Texas or Christianity. In fact, Mac's redemption through Christ is treated respectfully and with dignity. The baptismal scene is accurately portrayed and like the entire movie, was shot just south of Dallas.
Rent it, buy it...just get it. Be warned that there are no monsters or exploding cars so it's not suitable for everyone. But if want to see a superb character study, this is among the best. And, oh yes, Wilford Brimley is in it and he's always a great addition to a film.
Ping to dfwgator since we often are on the same page when it comes to sports and movies. Have you seen it?

I remember seeing it awhile back, not exactly my cup of tea, but I still liked watching Duvall.
