Time with Obama: $38,500 in Westport, $500 in Stamford

Political sources say President Barack Obama is coming to Connecticut Aug. 6 for two fundraisers in the political cash machine known as Fairfield County, whose residents already have written checks for more than $5 million to presidential candidates in 2012.

Movie producer Harvey Weinstein and his wife, fashion designer Georgina Chapman, will host the president at their waterfront home in Westport for the more expensive of the two events. Tickets are $35,800 each or $71,600 per couple.

Then it will be off to the Stamford Marriott, where $500 will gain admission to the ballroom and $10,000 will buy a handshake and a photo with Obama.

Jonathan Harris, the executive director of the Connecticut Democratic Party, confirmed details of the trip.

Connecticut donors have given $8.6 million to presidential campaigns this cycle, with $2.9 million going to Obama. Mitt Romney, the presumptive GOP nominee, received $4.8 million of the $5.7 million collected by Republican presidential candidates.

Ron Paul was a distant second in the once-considerable GOP pack, with $275,861.

More than $5 million of the presidential cash raised in Connecticut came from donors with Fairfield County ZIP codes, such the one that covers Weinstein's home on Long Island Sound. He and Chapman were married there in 2007.

What they wont be talking about in Westport is 10 miles away in Bridgeport, where 40+ years of 1-party government and untold millions in social welfare has resulted in failed schools, closed factories, entrenched poverty, rampant crime, and notorious corruption.

$10,000 to shake his hand? Real man of the people! How much to wash your hand after shaking his? Heck, they'd have to pay me $10,000 to shake his hand (and I'm not sure I'd do it.....).

I’m sure they’ll find a way to blame the problems in Bridgeport on the relatively lax gun laws in CT, compared to MA an NYC.

Not even a discount for couples. Does this just assume that people can't multiply $35,800 by 2?

Note to self: Work from home on August 6. That DB and his coterie will have traffic screwed up for the entire day.

Ha. I didn’t even catch that. I guess they assume his primary donors were educated by Union-protected teachers.

How can someone pay $10,000 dollars to shake this turkey’s hand and then display it in his home or office like they are long lost Friends.

You have to be a world class phony to do something like that.

They donate big bucks to Obama who hates them all and try’s to steal the rewards of their labor through taxes.

That’s just perfect! Why Westport? Why not go to “his people” in Bridgeport? I guess 0boober only feels comfortable with “white voters”. What about Hartford or the sanctuary city of New Haven!?! In fact other than Fairfield County (because of the Wall St money) CT is in pretty rough shape. We have a governor on the 0bama model who never saw a tax he didn’t want to raise. We’ve had basically 1 party rule with a scattering of NE RINOs for the last 30 years and the business climate is “unfriendly” to put it mildly.

It also says something that Obama sees the need to come to CT to campaign. I suspect he will be beck before November. If not Fairfield County, maybe the Groton Sub base/Millstone to pander for votes.

If the nuke workers, most of whom are ex military, and the navy personnel at the sub base are taken in by Barry we are truly lost.

I doubt they will, but it doesn’t mean Barry won’t try.
